Four Men Gunned Down in Apparent Ambush at Toekomsrus Home

Four men were shot dead after five armed attackers stormed a house in Toekomsrus on the West Rand in what is believed to have been a targeted ambush.

The victims — Dewyn Dickinson, 21; Theo Pieterson, 21; Claudio Davis, 21; and Ashley Von Meullen, 39 — were killed at a property in Lovers Rock, Erfsondes, on Friday.

According to an emergency services incident report seen by News24, the gunmen arrived at the house in a silver-grey Kia Picanto.

“All occupants were pronounced deceased,” the report stated.

Gunmen fled without taking anything

Police spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi confirmed that five men entered the property and opened fire before fleeing the scene.

“All four victims, aged between 21 and 39, were certified dead on the scene,” she said.

Nevhuhulwi added that the suspects left without stealing anything, strengthening suspicions that the shooting may have been a targeted hit.

An investigation into four counts of murder is under way.

CPF: Motive remains unclear

Toekomsrus Community Policing Forum (CPF) chairperson André Roberts said the circumstances surrounding the killings remain unclear.

Investigators are probing whether the victims were deliberately targeted or simply in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Roberts said eyewitness accounts suggested that two gunmen remained outside the property while two entered the house and opened fire. A fifth suspect allegedly waited in the getaway vehicle.

He believes the attackers were familiar with the house.

A member of a local rapid response team reportedly saw a vehicle speeding away from the scene shortly after the shooting.

No known gang links

Roberts said that, to his knowledge, none of the victims had known enemies or gang affiliations.

“We can’t really say [why they were killed] because, as we know them, none of them really had enemies. They weren’t affiliated to any gangs in the area,” he said.

He added that through his work with the CPF, he would typically be alerted to any disputes or incidents involving residents.

“I’m always the first one to be called if there is fighting or domestic violence because I’m the CPF chairperson. None of them were ever mentioned with regards to any fights or problems,” Roberts said.

The mass shooting has sent shockwaves through the Toekomsrus community, with residents calling for increased police visibility and swift arrests.

Authorities have urged anyone with information that could assist in the investigation to come forward.
