Many people have been known in the history of mankind to be jakes of different trades, but very few have equally excelled with distinction in more than one discipline.
But for Khanyi Mbau the story is different, she has moved from musician to actress, and equally excelled, winning an accolade instantly.
She now make part of the list of few celebrities who have managed to switch trades and remain relevant in the entertainment sector, more so getting some recognition in her new exhibition of talent.
The actress recently won her debut acting accolade, bagging the best actress award in a motion picture at the first ever South African International Film Academy Awards, which took place at Gold Reef City in Johannesburg on Saturday.
She got the award in absentia, as she was attending Somizi Mhlongo’s wedding.
Meanwhile, award-winning actor Dr John Kani, who was at the ceremony, wished Khanyi well on Twitter.
"Last night I attended the Inaugural South African International Film Academy Awards. The
house was sad that you were not present to accept the Best Actress Award in a motion picture.
Congratulations," he wrote.
Khanyi answered that she was very happy to have bagged the accolade and explained why she
could not turn up in person to receive the award.
"Dr Kani, I had to attend @somizi wedding , I am soo guttered. Imagine my first award ever,
recognition as an actress and I missed it. Thank you so much Dr," she responded.
Her other admirer by the name Sweetpea wrote; “Wooo its about damm time you get awards, I keep telling my friends how much of a good actress you are. I believe in that skill you have….a big congrats to you!”
Congratulatory sentiments gushed in from various quarters for the actress, who has had roles to play in Umlilo, Abomama, Uzalo and Leon Schuster Frank' Fearless, among others.
