Media personality and television host Molemo Maarohanye, better known as Jub Jub, has been released on R5,000 bail after the Gauteng High Court in Johannesburg granted an urgent application over delays in his first court appearance.

The ruling, handed down on Tuesday, 06/16/2026, comes two days after the 45-year-old was arrested following an alleged confrontation involving an e-hailing driver in Edenvale.

The High Court ordered Maarohanye’s release on bail and postponed the matter to Monday, 06/22/2026, when it is expected to proceed in the Germiston Magistrate’s Court while investigations continue.

The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) said the charge currently before the court is one of pointing anything likely to lead a person to believe that it is a firearm. According to the NPA, the charge stems from an incident involving an e-hailing driver in Edenvale.

Prosecutors said police later searched Maarohanye’s residence, where a pellet gun was seized before his arrest.

The urgent application was brought after concerns were raised about delays in his appearance before the Germiston Magistrate’s Court.

"In his urgent application, Maarohanye raised concerns regarding the delay in his appearance before the Germiston Magistrates' Court on 15 June 2026 and sought his release on bail pending his first court appearance," the NPA said.

The High Court subsequently granted the application and ordered his release on R5,000 bail.

"The matter was postponed to 22 June 2026 in the Germiston Magistrates' Court for further investigation," the NPA said.

The case centres on an incident that allegedly unfolded on Sunday, 06/14/2026.

According to Gauteng police spokesperson Captain Tintswalo Sibeko, an e-hailing driver had transported a female passenger to a residence in Edenvale when he was allegedly confronted by Maarohanye.

Police claim the musician accused the driver of being involved in a romantic relationship with his girlfriend.

"The suspect allegedly forced the e-hailing driver into his vehicle and prevented him from leaving," Sibeko said following the arrest.

She further alleged that during the confrontation, Maarohanye discharged a firearm in the direction of the driver.

"The e-hailing driver managed to escape unharmed and immediately drove to a nearby police station to report the matter," Sibeko said.

Police arrested Maarohanye later that day.

The arrest marked a significant change from the charges initially announced by police. On Monday, 06/15/2026, authorities said Maarohanye was facing allegations of kidnapping, unlawful discharge of a firearm and defeating the ends of justice.

Investigations remain ongoing.

"The NPA remains committed to ensuring that the matter is dealt with fairly, impartially and in accordance with the law, while safeguarding the interests of justice," the prosecuting authority said.

Maarohanye is expected to return to the Germiston Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 06/22/2026, as investigators continue gathering evidence relating to the case.

The latest arrest has once again placed the television host in the public spotlight.

In 2023, he faced charges including rape, assault and attempted murder in a separate matter that remains before the courts.
