Controversial media personality Molemo Maarohanye, popularly known as Jub Jub, is expected to appear in the Germiston Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, 17 June, in connection with an alleged kidnapping and shooting incident involving an e-hailing driver in Edenvale.

The 45-year-old was arrested on Sunday, 14 June, after a confrontation that police say unfolded shortly after 7.30am in a residential area.

Initially, police had indicated that he would appear in court on Monday, 15 June. However, it has since been confirmed that his court appearance has been scheduled for Wednesday.

According to police, the incident began when an e-hailing driver dropped off a female passenger at a residence in Edenvale. Moments after completing the trip, the driver was allegedly confronted by Maarohanye.

Police say he accused the driver of being romantically involved with his girlfriend, sparking a tense altercation.

It is alleged that Maarohanye forcibly detained the driver and prevented him from leaving the scene. During the confrontation, he allegedly discharged a firearm in the driver’s direction.

Despite the seriousness of the allegations, the driver managed to escape unharmed. He drove directly to a nearby police station, where he reported the matter to authorities.

Police responded swiftly to the complaint and arrested the suspect shortly afterwards.

Maarohanye now faces charges of kidnapping, unlawful discharge of a firearm in a public area and defeating the ends of justice.

Authorities have confirmed that investigations into the matter are ongoing, and no further details have been released at this stage.

The latest arrest places the television presenter and musician back in the legal spotlight. Over the years, his court appearances have drawn significant public attention, with previous cases generating widespread debate.

As he prepares to stand before a magistrate on Wednesday, the focus will turn to the legal proceedings and the circumstances surrounding what police describe as a confrontation that escalated into alleged kidnapping and gunfire.

The Germiston Magistrate’s Court is expected to hear the matter on 17 June, where issues relating to bail and the formalisation of charges could come under discussion.

For now, police maintain that investigations are continuing as they gather further evidence linked to the incident.
