Tzaneen – Tragedy has befallen the Chauke family after Jimmy Chauke, brother of popular South African DJ Charmza (real name Chris Chauke), was fatally shot at their father's home in Tzaneen. The incident has left the family reeling in shock and fear, with DJ Charmza reportedly in hiding.
According to Charmza's father, Funny Chauke, the incident occurred during load shedding at approximately 8 pm. Two men entered their home, initially asking to see Chris (DJ Charmza). "My other son, Jimmy, was visiting. I think he was joking when he said that he was Chris," Funny Chauke told ZiMoja. "That is when the men opened fire and shot him. Everything happened so fast. I ran out and I was shot in the leg. Then they ran off." Jimmy was shot three times.
The elderly Chauke revealed that this was not the first visit from the two men. They had previously come to the house looking for Chris when Funny Chauke was alone. "They first came looking for Chris, but I was alone, when I phoned him, they told me not to and they left," he explained. He added that while many people visit their home due to DJ Charmza's work as a sangoma, these men did not knock but "just barged in the house and left without leaving a message or their names."
Jimmy was rushed to the hospital but was declared dead upon arrival. Funny Chauke expressed his fear for his remaining son, DJ Charmza. "I don't want to lose my son after we lost Jimmy," he said. "I don't know who would want to do this to my family. Jimmy has a wife and children and did not deserve this."
The family has opened a case with the Maake Police in Mohlatlereng village.
DJ Charmza is known for his popular songs, including "I Surrender" featuring Vusi Nova and "Imani Ngwenya." Two years ago, he was involved in a legal dispute with Master KG, distributor Africori SA, and Open Mic, claiming to be the originator of the hit song "Jerusalema." Funny Chauke admitted to being unfamiliar with the details of the music industry, stating, "I don't know anything about music. I don't understand it. I heard something of the sort but I was never too involved."
