Cape Town – A disturbing video has emerged on social media depicting a woman brazenly urinating inside a Golden Arrow bus, as fellow commuters looked on in disbelief. The incident, captured on camera by passenger Stanton Bill, has ignited a firestorm of outrage and condemnation, raising serious questions about public decency and safety on public transport.

The video, which quickly went viral, shows the woman squatting between two seats, seemingly oblivious to the presence of other passengers. Bill, visibly shocked by what he was witnessing, recorded the incident and shared it online, expressing his disgust and frustration.

Bill, who has over 53,000 followers on TikTok, shared the video to highlight “what passengers go through on public transport” when fellow commuters act with a blatant disregard for others.

Speaking about the ordeal, Bill explained, “I was disrespected in that bus as a man and I believe any other man would have felt the same way because clearly my presence meant nothing to the women who were in that bus and all the other people also.”

He elaborated on the events leading up to the shocking act, claiming that several passengers on board had been consuming alcohol before the incident unfolded. He alleged that some of the women drinking “exploited themselves” in front of him, adding that they climbed onto seats, danced, swore, made noise and exposed their private parts in his direction.

"They suiped (drank) in the bus which is public transport, they [exposed] themselves in front of me," Bill stated. "They literally turned their bodies to me standing on the seats and showed their private parts. They were swearing, making a noise and dancing. The bus is not just for me, there were two older women next to me and no respect was shown to them. I don’t expect things to go my way but it is public transport and clearly the words public and transport meant f***l.”

Bill insisted his intention was not to “go viral”, but to expose the reality of misconduct on public transport. “I did it (filmed the video) so that [people on public transport] can know manners because it was disgusting and I am fucking naar (sick). I hope this never happens again to anyone on public transport,” said Bill.

Golden Arrow Bus Services has responded swiftly to the incident, condemning the woman's behaviour in the strongest terms. Bronwen Dyke-Beyer, spokesperson for Golden Arrow Bus Services, confirmed that the company was aware of the video and described the behaviour as "completely unacceptable" and “in no way representative of the expectations we have of our passengers”.

Dyke-Beyer reiterated that Golden Arrow’s conditions of carriage strictly prohibit drinking alcohol on its buses, disruptive conduct, or any behaviour that compromises safety or comfort.

She elaborated on the company's policies and procedures, stating: “Golden Arrow’s Conditions of Carriage prohibit any behaviour that may compromise the safety or comfort of passengers, including consuming alcohol on board, travelling while excessively intoxicated, or behaving in a disruptive manner."

Dyke-Beyer acknowledged the challenges faced by drivers in monitoring passenger behaviour, adding: "It is essential that our driver’s primary focus remains on safe driving, and as such, drivers are not always aware of incidents taking place behind them. In this particular case, the driver was not aware of what was taking place."

The bus company urged passengers who witness unsafe or rule-breaking behaviour to alert the driver “at the earliest safe opportunity”, so they can contact the control room or request intervention.

“Passengers who witness behaviour that violates Golden Arrow’s rules or compromises safety are encouraged to inform the driver at the earliest safe opportunity," Dyke-Beyer explained. "The driver can then contact our control room for guidance or request intervention as appropriate. Our drivers are trained to enforce these rules within reasonable operational limits and are supported by our control room and operational management teams. When a passenger’s behaviour violates these rules, the driver may request assistance, ask the individual to disembark at a safe location, or escalate the matter to law enforcement, if necessary.”

The incident has sparked a heated debate on social media, with users expressing their disgust and condemnation of the woman's actions. Many have called for stricter enforcement of rules on public transport and increased security measures to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.

One user wrote: "No, but that is absolutely disgusting for anyone to witness on a bus, nogals. This woman, young or old, should be ashamed of herself."

Another added, “When under the influence, morals are lost.”

Others questioned why she did not use a toilet before boarding, while another labelled the incident “a disgrace”.

The video has undoubtedly shone a spotlight on the challenges faced by public transport operators in maintaining order and ensuring the safety and comfort of passengers. It remains to be seen what steps Golden Arrow Bus Services will take to address the concerns raised by this incident and prevent similar occurrences in the future.

The news crew reached out to Stanton Bill on his social media accounts for comment but did not get a response.
