Unfortunately Seven people (Six Females and 1 Male) passed away due to their injuries sustained."

Eight other people sustained injuries and were transported to All Saints Hospital in Ngcobo for treatment. A third vehicle, the GWM bakkie, was also involved in the crash, sustaining damage, but fortunately, its occupants escaped without injury.

The tragedy has prompted an outpouring of grief and condolences. Eastern Cape Premier Oscar Mabuyane expressed his condolences to the families of the deceased, urging road users to exercise extreme caution.

"I want to wish those hospitalised a speedy recovery. Let’s work together to avoid road carnage. These calamities can be avoided and can be stopped. Let’s act responsibly, and let’s take responsibility with every action we engage in," Mabuyane said.

Eastern Cape Transport MEC Xolile Nqatha echoed these sentiments, expressing deep sadness that the crash occurred as families were preparing to welcome the New Year.

"What makes this crash even more painful is that it happened on a day meant for hope and renewal as we prepare to welcome the New Year," Nqatha lamented.
