East London – The South African Police Service (SAPS) have apprehended two suspects in connection with a violent assault on a private security guard at eBuhlanti Marina Glen in East London, Eastern Cape. The incident, which was captured on video and widely circulated online, sparked outrage and prompted swift action from law enforcement.

Brigadier Nobuntu Gantana, SAPS spokesperson, confirmed the arrests, stating that police moved quickly after the footage began circulating on social media. "The SAPS confirms the arrest of two suspects in connection with a viral video depicting the assault of a security guard at eBuhlanti Marina Glen in East London," she said.

The disturbing incident reportedly unfolded after the security guard confronted a group of individuals who were allegedly improperly parked at the beachfront location. Eyewitness accounts posted alongside the video suggest that the assault was triggered when the guard requested the group to move their vehicle, which was obstructing the road near the beach.

The video quickly gained traction across various social media platforms, drawing significant attention to the brutal attack. The footage showed the guard being subjected to a vicious assault, leading to widespread condemnation and calls for justice.

Acting Provincial Commissioner of the Eastern Cape, Major General Thandiswa Kupiso, commended the rapid response of the police officers involved, which led to the swift apprehension of the suspects. Their quick action has been praised for ensuring that those responsible for the assault are brought to justice.

The two suspects are now facing charges of common assault and are expected to appear in court in the coming days. At this stage, police have not released any further details regarding the identities of the suspects or any information about potential bail conditions.

Brigadier Gantana emphasised that the investigation into the assault is still ongoing, suggesting that more arrests could be made as the police continue to gather evidence and follow leads. "The investigation remains active, with further arrests likely. No further information can be shared on this matter," she stated.

The arrest of the two suspects has been welcomed by many who viewed the video online. The swift response from the SAPS sends a clear message that such acts of violence will not be tolerated and that those who perpetrate them will be held accountable for their actions. The community now awaits the court proceedings, hoping for a just outcome that reflects the severity of the assault.

The incident has also raised concerns about the safety and security of private security personnel, who often find themselves in vulnerable positions while carrying out their duties. There are growing calls for increased measures to protect these individuals and ensure they are able to perform their jobs without fear of violence or intimidation.
