Along Albertina Sisulu Road, they were ambushed. In the ensuing struggle, both officers were overpowered and disarmed. One sergeant tragically lost his life at the scene, while the warrant officer succumbed to his injuries at a nearby hospital. Jabulani Moyo seized the opportunity, commandeered the police vehicle, and vanished.
The abandoned vehicle was later found, but Moyo was gone. Authorities suspect he had accomplices. The officers' firearms were also missing, intensifying the investigation. The Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (Hawks) took over the case, launching a massive search operation across Gauteng.
The manhunt intensified, and a R150,000 reward was offered for information leading to Jabulani Moyo's arrest. Police warned the public that he was extremely dangerous and should not be approached.
