Popular Entertainer Arrested for Alleged Sexual Assault of 12-Year-Old

A well-known entertainer from KwaZulu-Natal has been arrested on charges of sexually assaulting a 12-year-old pupil at a local salon. The social media personality and reality TV star, whose name has not been disclosed, was apprehended shortly after the incident and has since appeared in the Newcastle Magistrates’ Court.

Police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Paul Magwaza confirmed the arrest, stating, “Police in Newcastle arrested a 32-year-old man for a case of sexual assault following an incident in which a 12-year-old girl was allegedly assaulted by a suspect known to her on Friday, 12 September 2025. The suspect appeared before Newcastle Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 15 September.”

The incident has sparked outrage in the community and raised significant concerns about how police handle sexual assault complaints, especially when they involve popular figures. One community member expressed deep anger about the way the situation unfolded, highlighting the failure of witnesses to intervene adequately.

According to eyewitness accounts, the incident occurred at a crowded salon where the young girl, dressed in her school uniform, had gone after school to plait her hair. As she waited, the accused allegedly began to stare at her persistently, making her feel uncomfortable. When she attempted to distract herself by fiddling with her phone, the man reportedly sneaked up, lifted her skirt, and brushed his fingers against her thighs, making contact with her private parts.

The atmosphere in the salon was unsettling, with some hairdressers laughing at the situation, dismissing the harassment as mere playfulness. It took the intervention of a male worker to stop the alleged assault. “It was appalling that women watched and laughed until a man decided to intervene,” said the community member.

Frustration grew when the victim’s family felt that the police were not taking the case seriously. The community member alleged that when the investigating officer asked the girl to identify the suspect, she became so distressed that she cried hysterically and even urinated on herself. “The investigating officer downplayed the seriousness of the matter, stating she didn’t see the need to give the case any attention because the accused was probably just playing with the girl,” the source claimed.

The accused, known for his involvement in a popular boxing match, is believed to have no prior relationship with the girl, who had only recently moved to Newcastle. Following the incident, her school was informed and has since provided support and counselling. Her father is now considering enrolling her in self-defence classes to help her feel more secure.

Family members described the child as deeply traumatised by the experience. They expressed concerns that this incident may not be isolated. “I strongly believe that it was not his first time harassing girls. He is so used to it that he doesn’t see anything wrong with it. This also explains why the hairdressers laughed and dismissed it as a mere joke,” one relative stated.

The family is adamant that the accused must face serious consequences. “He must rot in jail. He violated a minor, and there’s no way one can justify that,” a family member asserted.

When questioned about the lack of updates to the family regarding the case, Lieutenant Colonel Magwaza insisted that they should contact the investigating officer directly. It remains unclear whether the accused has been granted bail or has entered a plea, though reports suggest he was recently seen at a local shopping centre.

Natasha Ramkisson-Kara, a spokesperson for the National Prosecuting Authority, stated that she was awaiting feedback from the court but did not provide further details by the time of publication. Efforts to reach the accused for comment have been unsuccessful.

The entertainer is scheduled to appear in court again on 22 September, as the community watches closely, hoping for justice for the young victim.
