Seshego – A night of intended pleasure turned into a scene of tragedy as a couple was discovered dead with gunshot wounds near overnight accommodation in Seshego Zone 6, Limpopo. The grim discovery was made on Tuesday, 17 June 2025, at approximately 20:45, leaving the community reeling and police launching a thorough investigation.

According to Limpopo Police Spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, the victims, a 38-year-old man and a 39-year-old woman, were found lying in pools of blood after residents reported hearing gunshots.

"On arrival at the scene, two victims, a male (38) and a female (39) were found with gunshot wounds," Colonel Ledwaba stated. "The woman had multiple gunshots to the upper body, and the man had one gunshot to the side of his head. They were transported to the hospital for medical attention but unfortunately succumbed to their injuries."

The motive behind the killings remains unknown at this stage, but authorities are exploring all possible angles, including the possibility of domestic violence. "However, domestic violence-related challenges cannot be pulled out," Colonel Ledwaba noted.

The sequence of events leading to the tragic deaths is currently under intense scrutiny. While details remain scarce, the evidence at the scene suggests a possible scenario. It is believed that the couple had arranged to spend the night at the lodge. At some point during their stay, something went terribly wrong.

The man, for reasons yet to be determined, may have turned on the woman, firing multiple shots into her upper body. Overwhelmed by the gravity of his actions, he then apparently turned the gun on himself, firing a single shot to the side of his head. This narrative, while speculative, aligns with the forensic evidence and the positions in which the bodies were found.

Residents in the area have expressed their shock and disbelief at the incident. Connie Masetla, who lives nearby, recounted the moment they heard the gunshots. "We heard gunshots, later we went out to investigate, and that's when we discovered two victims lying in a pool of blood," Masetla said. "It was already late. We couldn't see who the victims were."

Another resident, Zanele Mmupa, echoed the sentiment of disbelief. "We are still shaking. We never expected something like this to happen in our area," Mmupa said.

The incident has prompted a strong response from community organisations. Vincent Kunutu, chairman of Seshego Community Against Crime and Gangsterism, condemned the killings and urged residents to assist the police in their investigation.

"As a community-based anti-crime organisation, we urge our people to help the police with the investigation to solve this case. We condemn in the strongest terms these senseless killings in our communities," Kunutu stated. Kunutu also revealed that the victims were both from Moletjie.

The Seshego police have launched a full-scale investigation into the deaths, with forensic experts meticulously examining the scene for clues. Detectives are also interviewing potential witnesses and gathering information about the victims to establish a clear picture of their relationship and any potential conflicts they may have had.

The discovery of the bodies has left many questions unanswered. What led to the apparent breakdown in the couple's relationship? Was there a history of abuse or conflict? What was the motive behind the man's alleged actions? These are the questions that investigators are now desperately trying to answer.

As the investigation progresses, the focus remains on gathering evidence and piecing together the events that transpired at the lodge on Tuesday night. The police are appealing to anyone with information that could assist in the investigation to come forward.

"Anyone with information that can assist in the investigation is urged to contact Warrant Officer Calvin Magoro on 084 411 8008, the Crime Stop number on 08600 10111, or use the MySAPSApp," Colonel Ledwaba urged.
