The first episode of Idols SA season 18 premiered on Sunday 17 July and new judge Thembi Seete has already become a fan-favourite. The new season also welcomed music executive JR Bogopa and reality star Somizi Mhlongo, who was on the previous season but took time off after his estranged husband, Mohale Motaung, accused him of abuse.

Legendary musicians Thembi Seete and JR Bogopa replaced former Idols SA judges Unathi Nkayi and Randall Abrahams who left after the season 17 finalé. According to Channel24, Mzansi Magic said it was not renewing Nkayi and Abrahams’ contracts.

Yesterday, Mzansi Magic left South Africa speechless after broadcasting a snippet of what to expect in next week's episode. Judges Somizi Mhlongo and Thembi Seete brutally clashed as Somizi accused Thembi Seete of continuously making the same mistake, but then Thembi would have none of it and she fought back.

Thembi Seete could be heard saying she is also a judge on the panel and not a guest.

Somizi told Thembi she’s been making the same mistakes and she isn’t listening to him.

Thembi tried talking when Somizi got upset, saying she was talking over him and he told her he has been a judge for eight years.

“I’ve been doing this for eight years. You just started now,” he said.

She responded and said she’s also a judge, not a guest.“I’m not a guest here, I am a judge. I’m not a guest and you better get it. I’m a judge and I’m here to stay. I am the first lady of this show,” she said.

The altercation ended with Somizi throwing and spilling his drink and saying “f**k”.

Viewers on social media were shocked by the judges and were wondering if the fight was real or just a publicity stunt.

This was because JR pretended to be quitting the show last week and people are convinced it is another ploy for numbers.

Twitter user Avuye Qayizana said the fight was just to get their numbers up.

“I am almost certain the anticipated upcoming Thembi & Somizi fight is all just a play or an act but of course #IdolsSA needs as much publicity to increase viewers, so hence their marketing strategy,” Avuye wrote.

Another user, KB Motswiane asked: “But would they really show us the fight if it was real?”

Then Oletiwe tweeted: “Oh, please… We all know that Thembi and Somizi’s argument scene for next week is another prank to get us to tune in.”

“It looks very staged Ma. A lot of Idols no longer authentically have real moments. So they add drama for views,” Refilwe Modiselle wrote.

Lady Du sought for JR’s composure; check out other reactions below:

The reality singing competition is one of the most viewed shows in Mzansi. However, after the airing of Idols SA season, 18 Twitter users have been trolling its judges for being uneducated.

It is preached that education is the key to success. There is some truth to it as education, degrees and certificates come as an advantage in Some industries.

However some industries like the entertainment industry require those with certificates and those without. A lot of celebrities are not educated but some of them a filthy rich.

Multi talented, choreographer, television host, radio host, actor, reality TV star and Idols SA judge Somizi Mhlongo is one of those people who made it despite not having a Matric Certificate.

Last year Somizi wished if he had a Matric Certificate as that would have made it easier for him to operate his Smeg coffee machine. At the time, Somizi and Mohale uploaded a video on Instagram where Somizi was trying to read the user manual of the coffee machine.

Somizi captioned the video,” Tjo this coffee machine just reminded me that I don’t have matric.” Mohale added a caption as well he wrote, “The coffee machine is dribbling hubby @somizi.”

Well, education does not always make one successful; sometimes, one needs to discover their talent and gifts to be successful. There is no one path to success, and Somizi and Thembi have proved that education is not the only path to victory.

Actress Thembi Seete was born in Soweto, and her father died when she was a teenager. She then moved to Sebokeng in the Vaal, where she stayed with her aunt and uncle. Although Thembi is a phenomenal entertainer, there is no history of her educational qualifications. She is the epitome of dynamite that comes in small packages, her body is small, yet she is a megastar entertainer.

Her musical journey marked her road to fame after being part of the kwaito Boom Shaka group. She went solo after the group split in 2000 after being formed in 1994. After being a solo singer, Thembi discovered her calling in acting for years, and we can all agree that she is a great actress after slaying her role on Gomora, where she plays Gladys.
