Teko Modise in R1.2 Million Divorce Battle with Wife Keletso

JOHANNESBURG – Former Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns star Teko Modise is locked in a dispute with his estranged wife, Keletso, over a proposed R1.2 million divorce settlement, six years after they tied the knot. While Modise does not oppose the divorce itself, he has lodged a counterclaim disputing the financial terms of their separation.

The couple's marital difficulties became apparent on social media when they ceased featuring each other on their respective pages. Now, both parties appear ready to finalise their divorce through a draft settlement agreement, initially proposed by Keletso in July, with both aiming for an amicable parting of ways.

Modise served the counterclaim document to Keletso on 17 September, formally stating his agreement to the divorce but contesting the proposed financial amount. The couple are currently undergoing mediation in an attempt to resolve their differences.

A source close to the situation told City Press that the settlement agreement was viewed as the ultimate recourse for both parties. The source also indicated that Keletso is primarily focused on the financial aspects of their relationship, with a particular emphasis on resolving all outstanding debt implications.

In her initial settlement proposal, Keletso claimed that Teko was liable for over R50,000 in debt she had accumulated through an overdraft facility. She argued that Teko was the sole beneficiary of the overdraft.

According to a source, Keletso took out the overdraft in her name, but the situation soured when she realised that the credit agreement primarily benefited Teko. “Beyond the settlement amount of R1.2 million, she also wants Teko to pay R10,000 per month to resolve the [overdraft] debt, which is still in her name,” said the source.

However, in the counterclaim document seen by City Press, Modise does not propose his own settlement amount, instead denying the claims made in Keletso's initial proposal. The counterclaim document states: “Save for admitting that the marriage relationship has broken down irretrievably, and that there is no reasonable prospect of restoration of the marriage relationship, the remainder thereof is denied."

A source close to the couple revealed to City Press that, “They are living different lifestyles, which is making reconciliation difficult, and they have declared that they have lost all love and affection for each other.”

Since retiring from professional football in 2019, Teko Modise has pursued various ventures, including fashion and broadcasting. He is currently a seasoned broadcaster for SuperSport.

Modise has also collaborated with several prominent brands, including Samsonite SA, NJR Jewellers, Hollywoodbets, PUMA, Nedbank, and Heineken, through social media campaigns and television commercials.

Keletso declined to comment on the matter, stating, “I am not interested in talking to the media about my divorce.” Teko Modise did not respond to a written enquiry, and calls to his phone went unanswered. The mediation process is ongoing as both parties seek to reach a mutually acceptable resolution to their divorce.
