Bank Manager Held At Gunpoint Ordered To Fill Bags With Cash – Three Suspects Arrested after Farmers and Police Track Down Sannieshof Bank Robbers

Three suspects have been arrested following an armed bank robbery in Sannieshof, North West, during which a bank manager was allegedly held at gunpoint, forced into a strongroom and ordered to fill bags with cash.

The suspects, aged between 47 and 49, were arrested on Friday, 30 October 2026, after police worked with local farmers and surveillance-camera operators to track their movements.

The robbery happened at approximately 10:30.

North West police spokesperson Colonel Adéle Myburgh said three armed suspects arrived at the bank in a white Toyota Corolla.

One suspect allegedly stayed outside while the other two entered the premises.

“Three armed suspects, travelling in a white Toyota Corolla, entered the bank. One suspect remained outside while the other two entered the premises,” Myburgh said.

One of the suspects allegedly went to the manager’s office, pointed a firearm at him and ordered him to cooperate.

“One of the suspects proceeded to the manager's office, pointed him with a firearm and instructed him to cooperate.”

Manager allegedly forced into strongroom

Police allege that the suspects then forced the bank manager into the strongroom.

Once inside, he was allegedly instructed to place money into bags for the robbers.

The suspects subsequently fled with an undisclosed amount of cash.

The manager’s alleged ordeal is now central to the bank-robbery investigation, which has been handed over to the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation, commonly known as the Hawks.

Police have not disclosed the name of the bank or the total amount stolen.

They have also not confirmed whether any employees or customers were injured during the robbery.

The suspects are expected to face bank-robbery charges, and the allegations will be tested in court.

They remain presumed innocent unless convicted.

Farmers’ cameras provide crucial breakthrough

After the robbery, police launched a multidisciplinary operation involving officers from several police stations, specialised units and members of the Sannieshof Farmer’s Community in Blue.

The farming community operates a network of surveillance cameras monitoring roads leading into and out of Sannieshof.

The footage and real-time information provided by farmers and camera operators helped police follow the suspects’ movements after they allegedly fled the bank.

“Through an established network of surveillance cameras monitoring roads leading into and out of Sannieshof, farmers and camera operators assisted police by sharing crucial footage and real time information about the suspects' movements,” Myburgh said.

The information enabled police to pursue leads along Ottosdal Road.

Detectives and operational teams were alerted to the movements of a vehicle believed to be linked to the robbery.

“The surveillance footage assisted police, who followed up on the information and proceeded along the Ottosdal Road, where they spotted a white Hyundai with three occupants,” Myburgh said.

The vehicle spotted by police was described as a white Hyundai, while the vehicle allegedly used during the robbery was identified as a white Toyota Corolla.

The Toyota Corolla was later found abandoned in Sannieshof.

Police have not explained whether the suspects allegedly changed vehicles or whether the Hyundai was a separate vehicle used during the escape.

That detail is expected to form part of the investigation.

Cash bag and clothing recovered

Police apprehended the three suspects and recovered one of the bags allegedly used during the robbery, along with clothing believed to have been worn during the commission of the crime.

The recovered items may assist investigators in linking the suspects to the bank, the getaway route and the alleged robbery.

A drone operator and members of the Lichtenburg K9 Unit were also deployed to search the area for further evidence.

The search was aimed at locating additional items that may have been discarded during the suspects’ escape, including firearms, money, clothing or other property.

Police have not confirmed whether any firearms or the full amount of cash were recovered.

Major police operation follows arrests

The operation involved members of Sannieshof Visible Policing, Biesiesvlei Visible Policing, Sannieshof detectives, police stations in Lichtenburg and Coligny, the Hawks, the Tactical Response Team and the Local Criminal Record Centre.

The range of units involved reflects the seriousness of the armed bank robbery and the need to secure evidence quickly after the suspects were traced.

The Hawks will continue investigating the case and may examine whether the three suspects are linked to other robberies in the province or neighbouring areas.

Investigators are also expected to establish the alleged roles played by each suspect, including who allegedly entered the bank, who remained outside and who may have arranged the escape.

Suspects due in court

The three suspects are expected to appear in the Delareyville Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 2 November 2026.

They are expected to face charges of bank robbery.

The court appearance will mark the start of the formal legal process, where the State will set out the allegations and the accused will be given an opportunity to respond.

The suspects’ ages range from 47 to 49.

Police have not released their names.

The case remains under investigation, and additional charges could follow if further evidence is uncovered.

The amount allegedly stolen has not been disclosed, and it is not yet known whether the bank will be able to recover the remaining cash.

Police commissioner praises farmers

North West Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant-General Arthur Peter Adams praised the farmers and camera operators for assisting police during the operation.

He described their involvement as an example of community participation in the fight against serious crime.

“The collaboration between the SAPS and the greater farming community is truly inspiring and portrayed the true spirit of ubuntu,” Adams said.

“The brave and selfless response by ordinary compatriots to a serious crime in progress is sincerely appreciated.”

Adams said the operation showed the importance of strong relationships between police and communities, particularly when information must be shared quickly to track suspects moving through rural areas.

“The members of the SAPS in the North West, during my tenure, will be urged to continuously strive to meet the expectations of our demanding but also very responsive and always helpful community,” he said.

“I appreciate the contribution of everyone which led to the apprehension of the three suspects.”

Investigation continues

The arrests followed a coordinated effort involving surveillance footage, real-time reports, road searches, specialised police units and the local farming community.

The three suspects will now appear in court while the Hawks continue investigating the alleged bank robbery.

Police will still need to establish the complete sequence of events, identify any other people who may have been involved and determine where the undisclosed cash went.

The suspects remain presumed innocent until the allegations are proven in court.

At the latest update, one alleged getaway vehicle had been abandoned, one bag and clothing linked to the robbery had been recovered, and three suspects were in police custody.
