A man who allegedly cornered a group of women at Vlamo restaurant in Sandton and threatened to kill them after his advances were rejected is being sought after a disturbing video of the confrontation spread across social media.
The formally dressed man was reportedly escorted from the restaurant after staff were alerted to the incident. The women involved, together with restaurant management, have approached local police and are expected to pursue criminal charges.
The confrontation happened on Friday, at a time when women across Ekurhuleni and other parts of the country were already living with heightened fear following the discovery of nine women’s bodies in the region.
In the video, the man is seen confronting the women near the bathroom area. One of the women points out that he is inside the ladies’ room. The exchange appears to have started after the man allegedly followed the group into the bathroom area when his advances were rejected.
The man is heard threatening the women and boasting about his wealth and lifestyle. At one point, he tells them he will kill them and leave.
“I will murder you now and walk,” he tells them.
He then criticises the women for allegedly rejecting him and warns them against disrespecting him. One of the women tells him that she did not say anything, but he continues speaking aggressively and pointing at the group.
“You can say no in a nice, respectful way. Don’t ever,” he warned.
The man then describes himself as wealthy and compares his position with that of the women he is confronting.
“Me, I am a wealthy man,” he continues.
He then makes the most serious threat captured in the recording.
“You guys are poor ladies. You can record. Me? I will put a bullet in all of you.”
The man also claims that the owner of a high-end restaurant works for him. He refers to homes and travel destinations while presenting himself as someone with influence and money.
“Me, I am not those ones who play. I stay in Steyn City and Cape Town. London, the US. I am not those little boys,” he says.
During the confrontation, he also calls one of the women a “cheap bitch” and continues to insist that the women should respect him.
“Don’t ever think you’re [more] special than me. Respect everyone. I respect you. I came to you respectfully. Recording is nothing. I am too wealthy, you understand? I am too wealthy for you guys.”
The recording has caused anger and concern among social media users, many of whom called for the police to intervene. The threats were made in a public restaurant, and the video shows the man continuing to confront the women while one of them records the exchange.

Vlamo, a Mediterranean tapas restaurant, confirmed that it was aware of the incident. The establishment said the man was not associated with the restaurant and had been removed from the property after staff were informed about what had happened.
In a statement, the restaurant said it would not tolerate conduct that placed guests or staff at risk.
“We have zero tolerance for behaviour that compromises the safety or experience of anyone within our establishment,” the restaurant said.
The restaurant said it understood why the video had caused concern and stressed that it took the safety, dignity and well-being of women and other guests seriously.
The establishment is expected to provide a detailed statement once a criminal case has been formally opened. The women and restaurant management have already approached local police to lay charges, according to the information available.
