A 60-year-old woman was killed and 13 other people were injured in a collision involving three minibus taxis on Nelson Mandela Boulevard in Cape Town on Monday morning.

The crash happened inbound, before Browning Road, at about 7:52am, according to Cape Town Traffic Services spokesperson Kevin Jacobs.

Jacobs said the woman was declared dead at the scene. He added that three people sustained serious injuries, while 10 others were treated for slight injuries.

Social media claims under verification

Videos shared on social media show a chaotic scene with several injured people lying on the road after the collision. Some posts claim at least one of the taxis involved was from Manenberg, while another user said passengers came from different areas, including Welcome Estate.

Traffic officials said these claims could not immediately be independently verified.

Lane obstructed; drivers warned

Jacobs said the left lane remains obstructed as emergency and traffic officials continue working at the scene. Motorists heading toward the city were urged to approach with caution and expect delays.

Cause unclear

The circumstances surrounding the crash are not yet clear—this is a developing story.
