Then, in another incident, the body of an adult man was found with multiple gunshot wounds in the street in Belgravia on Friday afternoon. Police say shots were fired from an unknown vehicle, and they believe the attack was linked to gang violence.
Both cases are now under investigation, and police have made it clear that no arrests have been made so far.
Philippi East Shooting: Six Teens Allegedly Gunned Down in Marcus Garvey
Provincial police spokesperson Constable Ndakhe Gwala confirmed that the Philippi East shooting is being investigated and that arrests have not yet been made.

“This office confirms that Philippi East Police registered two counts of murder and four counts of attempted murder following shooting incidents at Road 4 and Road 7 in Marcus Garvey on Saturday 12 September 2026 at about 3.50pm
"According to reports the six victims, (all) aged 16, were shot by two unknown suspects. Two victims died at the scenes while others sustained serious injuries.
"The motive for the attack is a subject of police investigation and no arrest has been effected at this stage.”
Police information points to two victims dying at the scene, while the other four were left with serious injuries. The shooting took place around 3.50pm, when people in the area were going about their day and when, according to reports, gunfire broke out in daylight.
Witness accounts described how shots rang out near Road 4 and Road 7 at about 3pm on Saturday. The suspects then fled the scene, leaving emergency response teams to deal with the aftermath as the community tried to understand what had just happened.

In this separate incident, the body of a male was found deceased with multiple gunshot wounds lying in the street on the corner of Veld and Heatherdale Road on Friday afternoon.
According to reports, shots were fired from an unknown vehicle and police believe it was a gang-related attack.
Constable Gwala confirmed that Athlone police responded to reports of a shooting at Veld Road, Belgravia on Friday 11 September 2026 at about 3.45pm.
Gwala reported:
“This office confirms that Athlone police responded to reports of a shooting at Veld Road, Belgravia on Friday 11 September 2026 at about 3.45pm. On arrival, they found a body of an adult male lying on the street with multiple gunshot wounds.
"According to reports, an unknown vehicle came from the corner of Veld and Heatherdale Road and started shooting. The motive for the attack is believed to be gang related.”
Police say a murder case has been opened for investigation, and again, no arrests have been made.
