Durban – One man was killed in a shootout with police near a petrol station in Spine Road, Westville, Durban, and a second died while attempting to flee, according to ALS Paramedics.
The paramedic service was called to the scene shortly after 06:30 on Thursday, spokesperson Garrith Jamieson said.
“Paramedics arrived to find EMRS (Emergency Rescue and Medical Services), SAPS (SA Police Service), and private security officials on site, with the area quickly secured as emergency teams assessed the situation. The occupants of a vehicle had allegedly been pursued by law enforcement before a shootout broke out near the petrol station,” he said.
Inside the vehicle, paramedics found the body of a man who had been shot.
The second man attempted to flee on foot, but fell to the ground and died. “He jumped over the wall and [there was] a long drop to the floor,” Jamieson said.
A third person was arrested.
The scene was cordoned off. Authorities are investigating the incident.
