Three Suspected Robbers Killed in Shootout with Gauteng Police on N12 Highway

Three suspected robbers were shot dead in a dramatic encounter with Gauteng police on the N12 highway on Wednesday, following their involvement in the robbery of a courier vehicle in Tokoza.

According to police spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi, the suspects were driving a silver Corolla when they were spotted on Kliprivier Road. Upon merging onto the N12 towards Soweto, police attempted to apprehend the vehicle. The suspects, however, sped off, triggering a high-speed chase that culminated in a shootout.

“The suspects’ vehicle came to a standstill on the N12 road between Xavier and the Soweto off-ramp. Three of the suspects were declared dead, and one was injured,” Nevhuhulwi reported. Police authorities recovered two firearms and some of the suspected stolen goods from the scene.

In a separate incident just a week prior, KwaZulu-Natal police were involved in another shootout that resulted in the deaths of five individuals. Police spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda stated that these five were wanted in connection with serious charges, including murder and house robbery. They were shot in Bester Area 10 in Inanda.

This gunfight occurred merely 24 hours after another shootout in Amaoti, where two suspects wanted for murder were also killed. Those individuals were linked to a shooting targeting four people, two of whom lost their lives in Ezimangweni, Inanda.

The ongoing violence highlights the escalating tension between law enforcement and suspected criminals in South Africa as police continue their efforts to confront and apprehend those involved in serious crimes.
