DJ Warras Murder Case: Accused Likely to Get Bail, Says Lawyer

Johannesburg – Victor Mthethwa Majola, the 44-year-old man arrested in connection with the murder of media personality Warrick Robert Stock, known to many as DJ Warras, is likely to be granted bail when he appears in the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court next week.

This is according to Dumisani Mabunda, Majola's legal representative, who spoke to journalists following his client's second court appearance on Tuesday. Majola was arrested last month in connection with the shooting of Stock in Johannesburg's CBD.

Mabunda argues that the state's case against Majola is weak, significantly increasing his chances of being released on bail.

"This accused was not arrested at the crime scene, he was not arrested on the same day of the incident, and during the arrest, nothing illegal was found in his possession. There is nothing that links this particular accused to this particular matter, save to say there is a statement by one of the co-accused whose charges were withdrawn to say that now she links Mr Majola to this particular crime," Mabunda explained.

He further elaborated on the perceived lack of evidence: "Except for that, the state has no prima facie case against the accused and we believe that there are exceptional circumstances that he should be released on bail. Obviously they (the court) have to look at the version of the state, and our version, and they have to balance that and make a determination."

Mabunda expressed confidence in his client's prospects: "But based on the facts at hand, we are of the view that we have a very good chance of this accused being released on bail, obviously with conditions."

The case was postponed to 13 January for a formal bail application, as reported earlier this week.

During Tuesday's proceedings, the magistrate inquired about Majola's well-being while in custody, specifically asking if he had received medical treatment at the Johannesburg prison. Majola confirmed that he had been seen by a doctor on Monday, addressing concerns raised during his previous appearance where he claimed to be injured and requested medical attention.

Warrick Robert Stock was fatally shot outside the Zambesi House building in Johannesburg’s CBD in December. At the time of the incident, Stock was working as a security contractor at the premises.

Prior to Tuesday's court appearance, the Stock family issued an appeal for unity, urging supporters to show solidarity by changing their social media profile pictures to solid white squares. This was reported on Monday. The family's call aimed to raise awareness and demonstrate collective support as the case progresses through the legal system.
