South Africa and Zimbabwe to Establish One-Stop Border Post

Pretoria – The Border Management Authority (BMA) has announced plans to construct a one-stop border post between South Africa and Zimbabwe, a move aimed at streamlining border crossing procedures and reducing congestion.

According to BMA Commissioner Dr. Mike Masiapato, the new border post will allow travellers and cargo trucks to be processed at a single point, significantly reducing processing times and improving efficiency.

In addition to the one-stop border post, the BMA is also working on constructing a new bridge on the western side of the Limpopo River, specifically for cargo trucks. This infrastructure development is intended to further alleviate congestion at the port of entry.

"The implementation of the one stop border post [is] one of the key strategic interventions and decisions of the government of South Africa, so that is very much fundamental where we are sitting now," Dr. Masiapato explained. He added that negotiations are underway with successful bidders regarding the public-private partnership. "So, on that basis we can indicate that during the current year 2026 we are going to start seeing that particular work gaining traction to the extent that there will be construction sometime this year around the last quarter of the year," Masiapato stated.

The construction of the one-stop border post and the new bridge represent a significant investment in infrastructure aimed at facilitating trade and travel between South Africa and Zimbabwe. The BMA anticipates that these developments will have a positive impact on the flow of goods and people across the border, boosting economic activity and strengthening regional integration.
