Limpopo – A tragic series of events unfolded in Tjibeng Village on Friday, leaving two people dead and another seriously injured after a domestic dispute spiralled into a case of alleged mob justice. Mecklenburg police are now investigating two counts of murder and one of attempted murder following the incident, which occurred at approximately 4.30 pm.

Police were initially alerted to a report of a man having allegedly killed his girlfriend at a residence in the village. Upon arriving at the scene, officers discovered the lifeless body of a 38-year-old woman. She was lying in a pool of blood, having suffered a deep cut to her throat.

Preliminary investigations suggest the woman was allegedly attacked by her 40-year-old boyfriend. It is understood that the victim, fearing for her safety, had locked herself inside the house prior to the incident. The suspect reportedly gained access after convincing a family member that he wished to speak with her.

Eyewitness accounts indicate that moments after the suspect entered the house, screams were heard. Family members rushed to intervene, but were confronted by the suspect armed with a blood-stained knife. He then fled the scene, escaping through a rear window.

A desperate chase ensued, during which the victim’s 41-year-old younger brother managed to catch up with the fleeing suspect. In a harrowing turn, the brother was stabbed multiple times in the back. He collapsed and was immediately rushed to hospital, where he is currently receiving medical treatment for his serious injuries.

As the chase continued, members of the community joined in and apprehended the suspect. It is alleged that the suspect was then subjected to a brutal assault, with reports indicating he was struck with various objects, including stones.

Police were later called to a location near a local tavern, where they discovered the suspect with critical injuries. Emergency Medical Services were summoned to the scene, but the suspect was pronounced dead.

The identities of the deceased and the injured are currently being withheld as investigations continue.

Limpopo provincial police commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has strongly condemned the incident, particularly the alleged acts of mob justice. She urged communities to allow law enforcement to handle criminal matters through the appropriate legal channels.

The Mecklenburg police are continuing their investigation into the full circumstances surrounding this devastating incident in Tjibeng Village.
