Search Continues for Tractor Driver Swept Away in Flooded Limpopo River

Limpopo police are currently searching for a 40-year-old tractor driver who is presumed to have been swept away while attempting to cross a flooded river at Rankin's Pass in the Waterberg District on Monday.

According to provincial police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, the driver's employer contacted authorities after receiving information that the driver was approaching the low-water bridge at Tweestroom while operating the tractor.

Reports indicate that the driver attempted to cross the flooded bridge but misjudged the tractor's alignment with the bridge, causing it to veer off course and plunge into the river. "The driver was not seen again following the incident," Ledwaba confirmed.

Search and rescue teams were immediately deployed and conducted a search operation. However, as of Wednesday afternoon, the driver remained missing.

Provincial police commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has urged motorists to exercise extreme caution and avoid crossing flooded rivers, low-water bridges, and roads covered by water. She emphasized the dangers of such actions, stating that "no destination was worth risking a life."

Police investigations and search operations are ongoing. The authorities are continuing their efforts to locate the missing tractor driver.
