Madlanga Commission Kicks Off with KZN Police Commissioner as First Witness

PRETORIA – The Madlanga Commission of Inquiry into the criminal justice system is set to begin its work on Wednesday, with the KwaZulu-Natal police commissioner, Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, scheduled to be the first witness to testify.

According to a statement released by commission spokesperson Jeremy Michaels, the proceedings will start at 10 am on the first day and will then begin at 9:30 am every day thereafter.

The public will be able to attend the hearings at the Brigitte Mabandla Justice College in Pretoria. However, Michaels confirmed that seating for members of the public is limited to three hundred people and will be allocated on a "first come, first-served basis." To secure a seat, members of the public are advised to arrive early, as "strict access control measures will be in place and no unauthorised entry will be permitted."

Michaels also noted that parking at the college is very limited. "Public access to the venue is via the entrance on Struben Street, between Lillian Ngoyi and Sisulu streets. Members of the public should note that parking at the justice college is very limited. It is therefore advisable to seek alternative parking," he said. The commission's work is expected to shed light on key issues within the criminal justice system, and the first testimony from a high-ranking police official is highly anticipated.
