MALAMULELE – Police in Limpopo have launched a "massive" manhunt for two men following a horrific incident of rape, murder and house robbery in Malamulele. The provincial police spokesperson, Brigadier Hlulani Mashaba, confirmed the details of the brutal crime.

According to police reports, the incident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday morning, at approximately 2:30am. A 43-year-old father was asleep in his bedroom when he was awakened by the sound of his door being forced open. He was confronted by two unknown men, their faces concealed by balaclavas.

Brigadier Mashaba stated, "It is alleged that on Tuesday, at about 2:30am, a 43-year-old father of two victims was asleep inside his bedroom when he heard the door opening forcefully and unexpectedly he saw two unknown males covering their faces with balaclavas."

The intruders, armed with a firearm, demanded money and cellphones from the father. The terrified man handed over his cellphone, explaining that he had no money to give them. The assailants then tied him up with a rope and proceeded to search the rest of the house, where they discovered the man's two children asleep in their rooms.

In the aftermath of the home invasion, the father heard multiple gunshots ring out. After managing to untie himself, he rushed to check on his children, only to be met with scenes of unimaginable horror.

"The victim found his 20-year-old son lying on the floor, bleeding heavily with a gunshot wound on the forehead," said Mashaba, detailing the gruesome discovery.

The father then rushed to the other room, where he made another devastating discovery: his 17-year-old daughter had been raped by one of the intruders.

The suspects then fled the scene, making off with a haul of stolen goods. "Furthermore, the suspects fled the scene in possession of stolen properties comprising a cellphone, a laptop, a chainsaw, a television set, a bicycle and a grinder valued at R36,300," Mashaba explained.

The two victims were immediately rushed to the local hospital for medical attention. Tragically, the 20-year-old son succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.

In response to this heinous crime, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, the provincial commissioner of police in Limpopo, has issued a directive for all available resources to be deployed in the pursuit of the assailants.

"I have directed the police in Malamulele to use maximum resources to ensure that the suspects involved in this heinous crime are brought to book to face the full might of law. This case will be monitored very closely," said Hadebe, emphasising the seriousness with which the police are treating the matter.

Police in Limpopo have opened a case encompassing house robbery, murder and rape, reflecting the severity of the crimes committed.

The police are appealing to the public for any information that may assist in the arrest of the two unknown male suspects. "Anyone with information that can assist with the arrest of the two unknown male suspects should immediately contact the investigating officer, Sergeant Shadrack Nghezimani Mabunda on 063 447 7375 or 082 319 9724, Crime Stop 08600 10111, nearest police station or use My SAPS App," the police appealed.
