Limpopo girl (16) stabs her boyfriend (24) to death on New Year's day after he caught her with another man

Modimolle, Limpopo – A tragic start to the New Year unfolded in Modimolle, Limpopo, where a 16-year-old girl is accused of fatally stabbing her 24-year-old boyfriend. The incident, allegedly fuelled by jealousy, has left the community shocked and highlights the devastating consequences of relationship conflict.

The incident occurred in the early hours of 1 January 2025, at approximately 5:20 am. According to Limpopo police spokesperson, Lieutenant-Colonel Stephen Thakeng, the 24-year-old man allegedly confronted his girlfriend after witnessing her with another man. This confrontation escalated into a physical assault.

"According to reports, the male person saw his girlfriend near some unknown man, and he started to assault her. The incident happened on 1 January 2025 at about 5.20am. She managed to flee but was followed and continued to be assaulted," Lt-Col Thakeng explained.

In a desperate attempt to defend herself, the 16-year-old girl allegedly retrieved a knife from her bag and stabbed her boyfriend, inflicting serious injuries. The injured man attempted to walk home, but succumbed to his wounds at the corner of Moloantoa and Selemela streets in extension 8, Phagameng, Modimolle.

His body was discovered by a friend, who immediately contacted emergency services. Paramedics arrived at the scene, but sadly, the man was declared dead.

Lt-Col Thakeng detailed the aftermath of the incident: "She took a knife from her bag and allegedly stabbed her boyfriend, inflicting serious injuries. He walked towards his home but succumbed to the stab wounds at the corner of Moloantoa and Selemela streets in extension 8, Phagameng, in an open field in Modimolle. He was found by a friend at the scene. Emergency Medical Services were called, and he was certified dead."

Following the discovery of the body, a murder investigation was launched. The 16-year-old girl was subsequently arrested and charged with murder. She is currently in custody and is scheduled to appear in the Modimolle Magistrates Court on Friday, 3 January 2025.

Lt-Col Thakeng confirmed the details of the arrest and upcoming court appearance: "A case of murder has been registered for further investigation. The 16-year-old girl was arrested and is expected to appear in the Modimolle Magistrates Court on Friday, 3 January."
