A 23-year-old parolee, recently released from prison, has been arrested for allegedly raping a three-year-old girl and dumping her close to her Mount Pleasant home.
Western Cape National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson, Eric Ntabazalila, said the suspect had been out on bail for a separate incident of attempted rape.
It is believed the man was a friend of the child’s mother.
The girl was found after a four-hour search by her parents and community members.
An employee at the Total garage alerted the police after hearing the cries of a child from the dump behind the garage.
Witnesses say the little girl was found lying in her own blood, naked from her waist down. She was taken to the Hermanus hospital where she remains for treatment.
The family of the child are said to be traumatised by the ordeal.
A family friend told the Daily Voice her father was left in tears.
“He cannot deal with what has happened to his little girl. This monster, who went to school with the little girl’s mother, deserves to die for what he did. He did it before and if he can do it once, he will not stop,” said the anguished friend.
Colonel Luthando Nosilela, of the Hermanus police, said locals and officers searched for the girl, who had last been seen at her home on Saturday morning.
She was spotted on surveillance cameras around 15:00 the same day at the Total garage next to the R43, he confirmed.
Police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Andre Traut confirmed the case and said the girl was reported missing at about 11:00.
