Two of Generations: The Legacy's most recognisable faces, Andile Nebulane and Pearl Noxolo Monama, are leaving the popular SABC1 soapie. The news of their departure has been confirmed, though the exact date of their final appearances is yet to be revealed.
Monama, who has portrayed Dr Siphesihle "Sphe" Moroka for almost a decade, joined the cast in 2016. Her character began as a seemingly innocent and dutiful doctor, but her storyline took a dramatic and unexpected turn. It was revealed that she was the daughter of the notorious Jack Mabaso, a revelation that plunged her into a world of deceit and intrigue. Since then, Sphe has been involved in covering up deaths, participating in questionable deals, and navigating a series of tumultuous romantic relationships.
Over the past nine years, Sphe's character has evoked a range of emotions from viewers. Sometimes she was a fan favourite, and at other times, she was a character audiences loved to hate. Her marriage to Mazwi Moroka, played by Musa Ngema, saw her change her surname from Cele to Moroka, further cementing her place within the complex Moroka family.
Nebulane plays Detective Pele Dali Malinga. While their final date on screens is yet to be confirmed, entertainment commentator Mlu reported on his X account, on Thursday, 19 June, that the fan-favourite stars are leaving the SABC1 soapie.
Monama's exit comes two months after the departure of Six Nyamane, who played Nozipho Moroka. Nyamane, who portrayed a journalist on the show, revealed to Daily Sun that she left in February 2025 to pursue her dream of travelling the world with her craft.
Interestingly, this isn't the first time rumours of Nebulane's departure have surfaced. In 2021, Generations: The Legacy publicly dismissed online speculation that the actor was leaving the soapie after he joined another show.
At the time, Nebulane confirmed to Daily Sun that he was indeed working on other projects, stating: "As an actor, I am not married to one show. I am working on another local show and behind the scenes creating three others."
Generations: The Legacy's publicist, Nandipha Phantsi, also confirmed in 2021 that Nebulane was not leaving the show.
As season 34 premieres, Pearl’s character bows out. Pearl is leaving with Detective Pele Dali Malinga.
In response to Daily Sun's request for comment, Generations: The Legacy's publicist, Eugene Cele-Kings, stated that Monama was not available for interviews.
Despite the departure of these established actors, Generations: The Legacy is set to welcome several new faces to its cast. Former The River actress Tinah Mnumzana, ex-Skeem Saam actress Nozuko Ntshangase, former Gomora actress Sannah Mchunu, and theatre actor Phillip "Tipo" Tindisa are all joining the soapie. Additionally, Buntu Petse will be returning to the show after leaving in 2024.
The exits of Monama and Nebulane mark a significant shift for Generations: The Legacy, leaving viewers to wonder how their characters' storylines will be resolved and how the new cast members will integrate into the established dynamics of the show.
