Moshe Ndiki Faces Tax Trouble: Over R1 Million Owed to SARS, Assets at Risk
Television presenter and reality star Moshe Ndiki is facing serious tax issues, with the South African Revenue Service (SARS) threatening civil action and the possible seizure of his assets.
According to documents obtained by City Press, SARS issued a first formal demand letter to Ndiki on 26 August, requesting payment of R600,000 within 10 business days. The second, dated 11 September, was addressed to his company, Moshe Ndiki (Pty) Ltd, and demanded the settlement of approximately R1.2 million, warning of civil court action should he fail to comply or arrange a payment plan.
SARS has advised Ndiki that failure to pay could result in any third party owing him money being directed to settle the debt on his behalf, or the court issuing a warrant to attach and sell his assets. The documents also suggested that he could apply for debt suspension or financial hardship relief if he planned to dispute part of the tax or sought a compromise.
“SARS may appoint any third party who presently or in the future will owe you money or hold money for you to settle your tax debt with this money. A civil judgment is being entered against you, in which case a warrant of execution may be issued for the sheriff of the court to attach and sell your assets,” read the letter.
SARS spokesperson Siphithi Sibeko declined to comment on the matter, citing legal restrictions on divulging taxpayer information. “I am prohibited by law from divulging confidential taxpayer information, so SARS will not be commenting on your questions,” Sibeko said.
Ndiki, best known for his portrayal of Andile Faku on the Mzansi Magic drama series Gomora, also runs a YouTube channel where he shares insights into raising his two sons. He did not respond to written enquiries, and calls to his phone went unanswered.
The matter highlights the increasing scrutiny of prominent public figures’ tax compliance, with SARS taking strong steps to recover outstanding debts. Ndiki now faces the prospect of entering into a settlement or risking asset attachment and potential legal action in the high court.
