THE AFRICAN National Congress (ANC) in Limpopo has placed former member of Parliament Boy Mamabolo on temporary suspension.
This after Mamabolo publicly insulted ANC members, the late Matthews Malebana who died on Sunday, 30 March and former Limpopo sports, arts and culture MEC and now Defence and Military Veterans spokeswoman, Onnica Kwakwa, on social media.
ANC provincial spokesman Jimmy Machaka said the Provincial Working Committee (PWC) has noted with concern the conduct of Mamabolo who has publicly acted in a manner unbecoming of an ANC member and has repeatedly insulted party members on social media.
He said the PWC views his conduct as bringing the organisation into disrepute.
"The ANC has been left with no choice but to invoke rule 25.9 of the ANC constitution and institute disciplinary measures to safeguard the integrity of the organisation and prevent further harm to its reputation," he said.
Machaka said at their meeting on Tuesday, 1 April, the PWC resolved to place Mamabolo on temporary suspension, pending the outcome of the provincial disciplinary proceedings.
He said the decision was taken in line with rule 25.56 of the ANC constitution.
"Mamabolo was notified of his immediate suspension and the conditions thereof. The ANC expects that he will comply with the conditions while the provincial disciplinary committee processes his matter," he said.
Machaka said they urge all members to refrain from using social media platforms in a manner that undermines the organisation.
Mamabolo's suspension comes after the ANC Youth League (ANCYL) in Limpopo warned its members against displaying violent incidents on social media and urged them to follow internal organisational processes instead of exposing the ANC to the public.
ANCYL Limpopo provincial secretary Phineas Sebola said they welcome the suspension of Mamabolo.
"From now we will respect internal organisational process to unfold. In the end, we wish to have a renewed Boy Mamabolo with corrected behaviour and character. The intention is to renew the movement, not to harm it further," he said.
The SunTeam contacted Mamabolo, and he said one day they will regret this decision.
"They're killing the ANC and one day they'll regret this decision. I'll do damage worse than Jacob Zuma did," he said.
