The highly anticipated second season of Zahara's reality show, titled "Zahara – As I Rise," will proceed as planned, despite the tragic death of the renowned singer. Zahara, whose real name was Bulelwa Mkutukana, passed away on December 11, 2023, due to liver complications at a private hospital in Johannesburg. Her fiancé, Mpho Xaba, was by her side during her final moments.
According to ZiMoja, Zahara had not completed her agreement with the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) to film the second season of her show, which was slated to air this year. However, the SABC has approached the family and received their consent to carry on with the production.
A family member revealed, "She wanted to film the new season and showcase the lobola celebration and everything. But her health deteriorated. She collapsed on the day of the lobola, and things took a turn. Nevertheless, the SABC has engaged with the family, and they have agreed to continue with the show."
The family member further disclosed that the reality series intends to depict life before Zahara's illness, document her battle with illness, and portray life after her passing.
"While the family is unfamiliar with the show business, they are receiving guidance from individuals such as Vusi Nova, who was one of Zahara's closest friends," stated the family member. They also expressed hope that Mpho Xaba would have an opportunity to share his perspective.
"He has been portrayed unfairly. If the family allows him to participate in the show, it would be fair to give him a chance to discuss their relationship during Zahara's final days," the family member added.
The decision to proceed with the show demonstrates the commitment of the SABC and Zahara's family to honor her legacy and provide viewers with an intimate glimpse into the singer's life, including her struggles and the love she shared with Mpho Xaba. Fans can anticipate an emotional and poignant season that pays tribute to Zahara's remarkable journey.
