In a bizarre and dramatic turn of events, a man from Katunhumara village in Gokwe, under Chief Nemangwe, allegedly sent a troop of baboons to attack his wife’s lover after the lover refused to pay him two cattle as compensation for adultery. The unusual incident has left the community in shock and sparked discussions about traditional conflict resolution methods.

The drama unfolded when the husband reportedly caught his wife and her lover in an intimate act in his garden. According to local sources, the wife had lied to her husband, claiming she was going to water vegetables in the garden, but her real intention was to meet her lover. The husband, who had grown suspicious of his wife’s behaviour after discovering incriminating WhatsApp messages on her phone, decided to follow her.

The day he caught his wife and her lover, she had lied to him, saying she was going to water the vegetables in their garden. Her real intention was to meet her lover. While she was in the garden, her lover arrived. The husband, already suspicious of his wife’s behaviour, went to the garden and was shocked to find them in the act,” a source revealed.

When the couple realised they had been discovered, the lover fled the scene. The husband attempted to confront him, but the lover refused to cooperate or pay the customary compensation of two cattle for the adultery. Instead of taking the matter to the local court or Chief Nemangwe, as is traditionally done, the husband reportedly took matters into his own hands in a most unconventional way.

Baboons Unleashed

According to villagers, the husband sent a troop of baboons to the lover’s home. The baboons allegedly began circling the lover’s yard, creating a sense of fear and unease. The attacks were so persistent that the lover eventually found it unbearable.

“It was remarkable; the lover's home became a target for baboons. They would come, sometimes in a large troop, just circling his yard, as if waiting for something,” the source said.

The situation took an even stranger turn when the lover reportedly started experiencing unexplained bleeding from his genitals. The combination of the baboon attacks and the mysterious ailment left him with no choice but to comply with the husband’s demands.

“The husband also faced the problem of inexplicable genital bleeding. The whole situation was astonishing and inexplicable. Eventually, he could no longer bear it. He realised it was easier to pay than to continue living like that. That's when he went to the husband and agreed to the compensation,” the source added.

Chief Nemangwe Weighs In

When contacted for comment, Chief Nemangwe confirmed that the matter had not been brought before him. He expressed concern that the parties had chosen to resolve the issue privately, bypassing traditional channels.

“From what you’ve told me, it seems the two parties reached an agreement privately, which may explain why it hasn't reached us. However, even if they chose to resolve such issues independently, they should be brought before the chief's court so that we can reconcile them and prevent the issue from arising again in the future,” the chief said.

Chief Nemangwe emphasised the importance of using traditional courts to resolve disputes, as they provide a structured and fair process for reconciliation. He warned that taking matters into one’s own hands could lead to further complications and conflicts within the community.

A Community in Shock

The incident has left the Katunhumara village community in disbelief. While adultery disputes are not uncommon, the use of baboons as a form of retribution is highly unusual. Villagers are divided in their opinions, with some sympathising with the husband’s frustration and others criticising his extreme methods.

“This is something we have never seen before. It’s shocking, but at the same time, you can understand the husband’s anger. Adultery is a serious matter, and it’s not easy to deal with,” one villager said.

Another villager added, “Using baboons to solve a personal dispute is not the right way. He should have taken the matter to the chief or the local court. Now, it’s become a spectacle, and everyone is talking about it.”
