Gangster party ends in tears: Gang member shot dead in full view of partygoers

MANENBERG, Cape Town – An alleged gang member was fatally shot at a street party in Manenberg on Saturday, despite police efforts to enforce a zero-tolerance policy on such gatherings.

The 32-year-old man was gunned down on 14 June at 8.30pm while the party was in full swing outside his home.

According to police reports, the man was inside his house in Kasougu Road when an unknown member of an opposing gang called him outside.

Police spokesperson Captain Ian Bennett explained that the man left his room and stepped outside, and that after a brief conversation, gunshots were fired at point blank.

Bennett added that the man was shot in front of the illegal street party patrons.

“The 32-year-old male went back inside [his home] followed by his assailant where he was shot again, once again in front of several partygoers…”

The deceased collapsed and succumbed to several fatal gunshot injuries to his body and a single gun shot wound to the head.

Bennett added that the assailant walked out in front of several eye witnesses, yet no one has come forward with information.

“The suspect fled the scene on foot. Manenberg’s community needs to change its perception if they are serious about turning the tide against gangsterism and killings within the area.”

Manenberg SAPS station commander Brigadier Jayce Naidoo and the Community Policing Forum (CPF) had previously issued a stern warning to gang bosses in May regarding their continuous lawless behaviour and called to put a stop to their planned “End of May Month bash”.

The gang bosses have reportedly agreed to cancel the parties to ensure the safety of the communities by going through the legal process of applying through the City to host such events.

Bennett added that while the family mourns his death, loud music and socialising continues undeterred by the brutal murder of an alleged gang member by an opposing gang member.

“A case of murder has been opened for investigation. No arrests have been made.”

Anyone with information regarding this incident can call SAPS at 021 699 9400 or crime stop on 08600 10111.
