Minister Motsoaledi to Assist with Repatriation of Family Killed in Road Accident

BELA-BELA, LIMPOPO – Health Minister Aaron Motsoaledi has pledged to assist with the repatriation of a family who tragically died in a road accident involving his driver. The commitment comes after Beauty Shoperai and her one-year-old son, Paul Masunda Junior, were killed on Saturday night when they were struck by a car transporting the minister.

The tragedy occurred as Shoperai was attempting to reach her husband, Paul Masunda, who had died in a similar accident just moments earlier. Before his untimely death, Paul Masunda worked as a freelance handyman, supporting his family primarily through selling firewood.

The family is now facing the daunting task of raising R75,000 to repatriate the deceased back to their home in Zimbabwe for burial in their hometown of Jerere.

Motsoaledi, accompanied by a small group of government officials from his department, visited the family at their home in Bela-Bela, Limpopo, to offer condolences and support.

“It’s a tragedy that no human being could have expected, so we came also because the family needs repatriation back to Zimbabwe," said Motsoaledi. "It so happens coincidentally that the certification and arrangements to repatriate people are done by the Department of Health, so we are going to see what arrangements we can do for them.”

The Zimbabwean Consulate has also pledged to expedite the repatriation process, with the family hoping to hold the funeral next Tuesday. The combined efforts aim to alleviate the financial and logistical burdens on the grieving family during this incredibly difficult time.
