13 Suspects Sought After Cash-In-Transit Heist on N3 in Durban

Police in KwaZulu-Natal are searching for 13 suspects following a dramatic cash-in-transit (CIT) heist on the N3 in Durban on Saturday afternoon.

Provincial police spokesperson Sergeant Thenjiswa Ngcobo confirmed that the incident occurred on the west-bound carriageway near the Sherwood off-ramp.

“It is reported that the suspects accosted a cash-in-transit vehicle and robbed the security guards of their firearms before stealing an undisclosed amount of money,” Ngcobo said.

Van Engulfed in Flames

Emergency services responded to the scene shortly after the attack.

Garrith Jamieson of ALS Paramedics said crews arrived to find the cash van engulfed in flames.

“Two of the cash guards were unharmed; however, a police officer was treated for injuries sustained,” Jamieson said.

He added that traffic on the busy highway was heavily congested as emergency teams worked at the scene.

“The scene has been cordoned off for the necessary investigations to continue,” he said.

Manhunt Underway

Police have launched a manhunt for the 13 suspects involved in the heist. The exact amount of money stolen has not been disclosed.

Investigations are ongoing.
