MP Fadiel Adams Slams Police After Armed Raid on Mitchells Plain Home

0
Mitchells Plain, Cape Town – A group of armed police officers allegedly stormed a property in Westridge, Mitchells Plain, in the early hours of Saturday morning, in what National Coloured Congress (NCC) leader and Member of Parliament, Fadiel Adams, has described as a blatant act of political intimidation.
The raid, which took place around 03:00 on 02 May 2026, reportedly targeted a home previously occupied by Adams. According to witnesses and the MP himself, a "discredited" unit within the South African Police Service (SAPS) forced their way into the premises in search of the outspoken politician, despite him no longer residing at the address.

A Pre-Dawn Siege

The incident has sparked outrage in the Mitchells Plain community, with many residents questioning the legality and necessity of the operation. Adams, who was not present at the time of the raid, claims that the officers were members of a controversial unit often used to target political opponents.
"They came with big guns and heavy boots to a house where children were sleeping," Adams said in a video statement released shortly after the incident. "They were looking for me, but they knew I wasn't there. This wasn't a search for a criminal; this was a message sent to a politician who refuses to be silent."
Witnesses at the scene described a chaotic environment, with officers allegedly refusing to produce a search warrant when asked. The current occupants of the home, who are relatives of Adams, were left traumatised by the encounter.

The 'PKTT' Controversy

At the heart of Adams's allegations is the involvement of what he refers to as the "PKTT" unit. The MP has long been a vocal critic of specific police task teams in the Western Cape, accusing them of being "hired guns" for political factions within the government.
"This is the same unit that has been linked to several wrongful arrests and instances of police brutality," Adams claimed. "They are being used to bypass the standard chain of command to harass those of us who are exposing corruption in the City of Cape Town and the provincial government."
Adams has built his political career on a platform of anti-corruption and community activism. As the founder of the National Coloured Congress, he has often clashed with the Democratic Alliance (DA) leadership in the Western Cape, particularly over issues of service delivery and housing in historically marginalised areas.

'I Will Not Be Silenced'

Following the raid, Adams visited the Mitchells Plain police station to open a case of intimidation and malicious damage to property against the officers involved. He has also called for an urgent investigation by the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID).
"If they think they can scare me into stopping my work, they are sadly mistaken," Adams told reporters outside the station. "I am a Member of Parliament. I have a mandate from the people to hold the powerful to account. If they can do this to me, what are they doing to ordinary citizens who don't have a platform?"
The SAPS has confirmed that an operation took place in the Mitchells Plain area but has remained tight-lipped about the specific targets or the reasons for the raid. A spokesperson for the Western Cape police stated that "internal processes are being followed" to address the complaints lodged by the MP.

A Pattern of Pressure?

The raid on Adams's former home is not an isolated incident in the current political landscape of the Western Cape. Several opposition figures have recently complained of increased police surveillance and "harassment" as the province gears up for upcoming local government elections.
Political analysts suggest that the rise of smaller, community-focused parties like the NCC has put pressure on the traditional power structures in the province. "Fadiel Adams is a polarizing figure, but he has a significant following in Mitchells Plain and beyond," says one Cape Town-based analyst.
"A raid like this, especially if found to be without a warrant, only serves to bolster his narrative of being a victim of a 'captured' state apparatus."

The Community Reacts

In Mitchells Plain, the reaction has been one of both anger and weariness. The area has long struggled with high crime rates and gang violence, and many residents feel that police resources should be focused on these issues rather than political disputes.
"We need the police to be catching the gangsters who are killing our children, not raiding the homes of people who are trying to help us," said one Westridge resident who witnessed the pre-dawn operation. "It feels like they have their priorities all wrong."
As the investigation into the raid continues, Fadiel Adams has vowed to take the matter to the highest levels of government, including the Portfolio Committee on Police. For now, the streets of Westridge remain quiet, but the political fallout from the Saturday morning raid is only just beginning.
