Pretoria – Gauteng police are investigating a mass shooting that left five men dead outside a tuck shop in Jeffsville, near Atteridgeville, on Wednesday. The incident marks the second shooting in the province in just two days, raising concerns about escalating violence.
The Gauteng police are currently at the scene, an informal settlement near Atteridgeville, meticulously gathering evidence and attempting to piece together the events that led to the deadly shooting. Details surrounding the incident remain sketchy at this stage, with police expected to release further information as the investigation progresses.
A video circulating on social media within neighbourhood groups depicts a grim scene: two of the victims lying in pools of blood just metres apart outside the tuck shop, which is located in the Mdlalose community office.
This latest incident follows a shooting at the Booysens Magistrates Court in Johannesburg on Tuesday, where five people were shot at the main entrance. Two of the victims in that shooting were pronounced dead at the scene, while the remaining three were transported to hospital with gunshot wounds. One of the deceased has been identified as Jonathan Swartz, an alleged gangster known by the alias "Capone".
The motive for the Jeffsville shooting remains unknown, and police are appealing to the public for any information that could assist in their investigation. The lack of concrete details surrounding the incident has left the community on edge.
The recent surge in gun violence across Gauteng has prompted calls for increased police presence and more effective crime prevention strategies. Authorities are under pressure to address the growing sense of insecurity and restore public confidence in the ability of law enforcement to maintain order and protect citizens.
This is a developing story, and further details will be provided as they become available.
