KwaZulu-Natal and the Eastern Cape were abuzz with celebrations this weekend as Zulu King Misuzulu Kazwelithini prepared to tie the knot with his wife, Nomzamo Myeni, while ATM leader in parliament, Vuyo Zungula, celebrated his traditional wedding ceremony.

King Misuzulu's wedding is taking place today at the Kwakhangela Royal Palace in Nongoma, northern KwaZulu-Natal. The ceremony follows the initial stage of umkhehlo (a traditional Zulu engagement) held at the Jozini sports ground. The King attended the umkhehlo with a royal delegation, which included senior prince, Vanana Zulu, from the Kwaminyamanzi royal house.

Dignitaries expected to attend the royal wedding include Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi and his KwaZulu-Natal counterpart, Thami Ntuli.

Meanwhile, in the Eastern Cape, Vuyo Zungula's traditional wedding ceremony took place yesterday in his home village of Tsolo. The wedding marks a significant and joyous occasion in the life of one of South Africa's youngest political leaders, known for his calm demeanour and principled leadership style.

Zungula's love story with his wife, Zoleka Mathiso, began years ago at the Twelve Apostles Church in Christ, the very church that founded the ATM. According to those close to the couple, it was love at first sight. Despite the instant connection, Zungula chose to be respectful and patient in pursuing Zoleka, ensuring their relationship developed naturally over time.

Zungula's close friend, Buyisile Jentile, has described their relationship as a match made in heaven, noting that Zoleka possesses qualities that closely resemble Zungula’s humbleness and kindness. The couple's bond has grown stronger in recent years as they have spent more time together, and when the time felt right, Zungula didn't hesitate to propose.
