The South African Police Service (SAPS) has confirmed that the investigation into the deaths of three police constables whose bodies were recovered from the Hennops River in Centurion, Tshwane, remains active and is receiving focused attention.

Constable Keamogetswe Buys (30), Constable Boipelo Senoge (20), and Constable Cebekhulu Linda (24) were reported missing on 23 April 2025. Their subsequent discovery in the Hennops River prompted a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding their deaths.

Police spokeswoman Brigadier Athlenda Mathe provided an update on the progress of the investigation, stating that both SAPS and private specialists have submitted reports as prescribed. The investigation is complex and requires the input of various experts to determine the cause and circumstances of the constables' deaths.

"Preliminary post-mortem reports have been received, but the final reports, which will include blood alcohol results, toxicology, and histology, are still awaited," she said. These final reports are considered critical to understanding the full picture and drawing definitive conclusions.

Mathe further explained that the findings from the various expert analyses are essential before the investigation can be concluded. The SAPS is committed to a thorough and credible outcome, which necessitates waiting for all the necessary information to be compiled and assessed.

"Analysis of physical evidence is still underway. This process is complex as SAPS relies on external specialists for certain examinations. While the SAPS accident expert report has been finalised, it's not itself conclusive," she said. The accident expert report provides valuable insights, but it needs to be considered in conjunction with other evidence and expert opinions.

Given the nature of the outstanding reports and the complexity of the analyses, Brigadier Mathe indicated that it is not possible at this stage to provide a definitive time frame for the completion of the investigation. The SAPS is prioritising thoroughness and accuracy over speed.

"What can be confirmed is that the matter is progressing, and all necessary expertise is being applied to ensure a thorough and credible outcome," said Mathe. The police are committed to leaving no stone unturned in their pursuit of the truth.

"SAPS remains committed to finalising this investigation with the required diligence, mindful of the sensitivity of the case for the families, colleagues, and public," said Mathe. The SAPS recognises the profound impact this tragedy has had on the families of the deceased constables, their colleagues, and the wider community. The police are dedicated to providing answers and closure through a comprehensive and transparent investigation.
