Popular musician and television personality Molemo Katleho Maarohanye, widely known as Jub Jub, appeared in the Germiston Magistrate’s Court on Monday in connection with firearm-related charges linked to an incident involving an e-hailing driver in Edenvale earlier this month.
Maarohanye faces charges of “discharging a firearm in a public place and pointing anything likely to lead a person to believe that it is a firearm,” according to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA).
The case relates to an alleged incident that took place on June 14, 2026. It is alleged that during the confrontation with the e-hailing driver in Edenvale, a firearm was discharged. Following the incident, police conducted an investigation.
During the subsequent investigation, officers reportedly seized a pellet gun at Maarohanye’s residence. The discovery of the pellet gun now forms part of the case being considered by the court.
Maarohanye appeared in court while out on bail. He had secured his release through an urgent bail application that was granted by the Gauteng Division of the High Court in Johannesburg on June 16, 2026, two days after the alleged incident.
On Monday, the Germiston Magistrate’s Court heard that the matter could not proceed as investigations are still ongoing. Prosecutors indicated that further work needs to be completed before the case can move forward.
The case was subsequently postponed to August 24, 2026 for further investigation. Maarohanye is expected to return to the Germiston Magistrate’s Court on that date.
NPA spokesperson Magaboke Mohlatlole confirmed the details of the charges and the status of the investigation.
“The charges stem from an incident involving an e-hailing driver in Edenvale on June 14, 2026. During the subsequent investigation, a pellet gun was seized at Maarohanye’s residence,” Mohlatlole said.
He added that the prosecuting authority would allow the process to unfold in line with the evidence gathered.
“The NPA remains guided by the evidence and is committed to ensuring that the matter proceeds through the criminal justice process without fear, favour or prejudice.”
Maarohanye will remain out on bail pending his next court appearance.
The postponement means the investigation will continue over the coming weeks as authorities finalise outstanding aspects of the case. Only once this process is complete will the court be in a position to determine how the matter will proceed.
For now, the well-known entertainer remains under legal scrutiny as the criminal justice process runs its course.
