Sweet Guluva demands DNA test as Ashley Ogle denies access to newborn

What started as a heartfelt Valentine’s Day baby reveal has spiralled into a bitter public dispute between Big Brother Mzansi stars Ashley Ogle and Sweet Guluva (real name Akhonamathemba Zwane).

Ogle announced the arrival of her baby boy in a touching social media post, calling him her “forever Valentine”. She did not name the child’s father, but many fans assumed it was Sweet Guluva, given their widely followed romance in Biggie’s house and their relationship after the show.

Now, Sweet Guluva claims he has been denied access to the newborn, while Ogle insists he never made any real effort to be involved during the pregnancy or after the birth.

Sweet Guluva: ‘I’ve been asking to see the child’

In a statement issued on Tuesday by the management team of the Big Brother Mzansi season five winner, Sweet Guluva said he had been privately requesting since the beginning of 2025 to:

  • Meet the child, and
  • Formally approach Ogle’s family to address “damages in accordance with Zulu culture”.

The statement said that despite him making it clear that he wanted to be involved in the child’s life, he had not met or seen the baby in person.

It further stated that, until he and his family are allowed to meet the child and conduct a paternity test, it would be “irresponsible” for him to confirm or deny that he is the father.

“As the unfounded public narrative continues to develop without verified facts and Sweet Guluva’s genuine efforts to establish the identity of and meet with the child have not yielded positive results, we have instructed our legal representatives to intervene,” the statement read.

His team said legal correspondence had been sent to Ogle, requesting access to the baby and a DNA test, and described Sweet Guluva as a responsible man who would not run away from his obligations.

Ashley Ogle: ‘No meaningful attempt has been made’

Ogle responded swiftly with her own statement, flatly rejecting the picture painted by Sweet Guluva’s camp.

“I would like to put it on record that no such attempt has been made to me and my family. I cannot deny access to someone who has made no attempt to be part of the pregnancy or the birth of my son,” she said.

She revealed that their last contact was after her son’s birth, when Zwane allegedly asked whether his name had been registered on the birth certificate. Ogle said she told him he was not registered because he was not present.

She added that he then requested a meeting in a public space, which she was not comfortable with so soon after giving birth.

Culture, family and online bullying

Responding to his references about handling the matter “in accordance with Zulu culture”, Ogle said her parents had been disrespected during her pregnancy because the proper procedures were not followed.

She further alleged that she faced:

  • Public bullying from some of Sweet Guluva’s fans and friends
  • Humiliation
  • Voice notes questioning her pregnancy
  • Defamatory remarks
  • Discussions about her mental health at his family gatherings

“Since he is now suddenly unsure of the paternity of my son, I have nothing further to discuss with him,” she said.

A reality TV romance turned sour

Ogle and Sweet Guluva’s relationship blossomed inside the Big Brother house and continued briefly after they left the show.

By September last year, Ogle told media personality Lasizwe Dambuza that Zwane had ended the relationship.

“Sweet Guluva broke up with me. I was forced to go with it. I’m a fan of Sweet Guluva, and I was in love with him,” she said at the time.

Their current fallout mirrors past drama from the Big Brother Mzansi franchise. In season three, winner Mpho Wabadimo and finalist Themba Broly also saw their relationship unravel publicly while expecting a child.

With legal representatives now involved, questions of paternity, cultural process and access to the child are likely to play out both in private negotiations and under intense public scrutiny.
