Popular Limpopo musician Lehlogonolo Katlego “Shebeshxt” Chauke, is facing fresh charges of attempted murder and firearm possession, while already out on bail for a similar, unrelated case. The Polokwane Magistrate’s Court heard on Friday that one of two men allegedly shot by the 30-year-old artist in October sustained a bullet wound to the jaw.

According to National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) regional spokesperson Mashudu Malabi, the incident occurred last month when the two victims, who identified themselves as fans of the musician, were driving along Witklip Street in Ladanna, Polokwane.

Malabi stated that upon spotting Chauke, the pair greeted him. “It is alleged that upon seeing the accused, they greeted him as fans,” Malabi said. “The accused allegedly responded by saying, ‘Kgane aletlale ka nna?’ a slang phrase used to intimidate people, before firing a shot in their direction.”

The bullet struck the driver in the jaw, shattering the window of their Nissan vehicle. The injured man was immediately rushed to Polokwane Provincial Hospital for emergency treatment. Following an investigation, police arrested Chauke on 12 November.

Chauke appeared in court on Friday, where he was formally charged with attempted murder, malicious damage to property, and possession of an unlicensed firearm. The case has been postponed to 25 November for a formal bail application, and Chauke remains in custody.

These latest charges compound the legal woes for the rapper, who is already embroiled in another serious case dating back to April 2023. In that separate incident, Chauke faces two counts of attempted murder, assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, robbery with aggravating circumstances, and malicious damage to property.

The trial for the April 2023 case is scheduled to run from 17 to 19 February 2026 in the Lebowakgomo Regional Court. Chauke is currently out on R5,000 bail in connection with those charges. The upcoming bail application on 25 November will determine whether he remains in custody pending the resolution of both cases.
