Shebeshxt Embroiled in Attempted Murder Case Following Road Rage Shooting
Polokwane – Controversial hip hop artist Shebeshxt, real name Lehlogonolo Katlego Chauke, is facing serious allegations after allegedly shooting a motorist in a road rage incident in Polokwane on Tuesday night. The incident has landed the "Ambulance" hitmaker in hot water and sparked a police investigation.
The alleged victim is currently fighting for his life in the intensive care unit of a Polokwane hospital, having sustained a gunshot wound to the solar plexus.
According to information received, the incident unfolded on one of Polokwane's busy streets when an argument erupted between Shebeshxt and another motorist over what is believed to have been a case of reckless driving. The verbal altercation quickly escalated, with both parties reportedly exchanging insults.
Sources say that Shebeshxt then drove into a filling station and parked his vehicle. The other motorist followed him, parking his own car and exiting the vehicle.
It is alleged that Shebeshxt, known for his distinctive rapping style, also got out of his car, approached the motorist, and allegedly shot him. The injured man collapsed to the ground, while Shebeshxt reportedly got back into his vehicle and drove away from the scene.
"The motorist was rushed to a local hospital, where he is fighting for his life. He is apparently in the intensive care unit," said a source familiar with the case, who requested anonymity for fear of victimisation.
The matter was reported to the Westenburg Police Station, where a case of attempted murder was opened against Shebeshxt.
It has been learnt that Shebeshxt, was handed over to the police by his legal representatives on Thursday and was subsequently detained.
However, shortly after being placed in police holding cells, detectives from the provincial police headquarters reportedly arrived and released the artist.
"They took the docket from the Westenburg Police Station and said the matter is being investigated by the murder and robbery unit, and that they would obtain a statement from Shebeshxt and the victim once investigations have been completed," the source revealed.
The decision to release Shebeshxt from custody has reportedly angered the victim's family, who are said to be extremely upset with the police's handling of the case.
The source further stated that the victim's family are so off the wall that they threatened to take the law into their own hands if Shebeshxt does not get arrested and face the music for his caper.
The source also expressed hope that, if Shebeshxt did indeed shoot the motorist, it was done in self-defence and that the firearm used was legally owned; otherwise, he will go to crossbar hotel for many years.
Limpopo police spokesperson Malesela Ledwaba confirmed that the Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, has directed the murder and robbery unit to take over the investigation.
Ledwaba stated, “The police have a person of interest ,and when done with investigations they will take necessary actions."
He added, "The investigations by murder and robbery unit have been intensified, the team is tightening loose ends and an arrest is imminent at this stage.”
Ledwaba also requested that the police be given space to conduct their investigation thoroughly. "Police are asking for more space to conduct their investigation," he said.
The investigation is ongoing, and the circumstances surrounding the shooting remain under scrutiny. The police have assured the public that they are committed to bringing the perpetrator to justice. The outcome of this case will undoubtedly have significant implications for Shebeshxt, whose career has already been marred by controversy.
