SASSA announces earlier November grant payments ahead of 4 November local government elections

0

Some SASSA beneficiaries will receive their November social grant payments earlier than usual because of the upcoming local government elections on 4 November.

The National Treasury approved changes to the payment schedule to help prevent disruptions during the election period. The revised timetable covers the Older Persons Grant, Disability Grant and Children’s Grants, while a separate date has been allocated to beneficiaries whose grants are undergoing review.

According to SASSA, the Older Persons Grant will be paid on Friday, 30 October.

Beneficiaries receiving the Disability Grant will be paid on Monday, 2 November, while Children’s Grants will be paid on Tuesday, 3 November.

A fourth payment date, Thursday, 5 November, has been allocated specifically to beneficiaries whose grants are undergoing the review process.

The revised dates are intended to ensure that beneficiaries can access their money without the election-related arrangements affecting the normal grant-payment process.

SASSA urges beneficiaries not to rush to offices

SASSA said the revised schedule followed consultations with stakeholders and was designed to keep payments secure and efficient during the elections.

“The revised payment schedule follows extensive consultations between SASSA and various stakeholders to ensure that social grant payments continue to be administered efficiently, securely and with minimal disruption during the election period.

"The Agency urges beneficiaries not to rush to SASSA offices unnecessarily, as grant payments will be processed according to the announced schedule.”

Beneficiaries are therefore encouraged to take note of the payment date that applies to their grant and to avoid visiting SASSA offices simply to confirm whether payments have been processed.

The agency did not indicate that beneficiaries needed to reapply for their grants or change their payment method because of the revised timetable. Payments will be processed according to the announced schedule.

Payment dates at a glance

•Older Persons Grant: Friday, 30 October

•Disability Grant: Monday, 2 November

•Children’s Grants: Tuesday, 3 November

•Beneficiaries whose grants are under review: Thursday, 5 November

The dates apply to the November payment cycle and were adjusted because of the 4 November local government elections.

Beneficiaries should continue using their usual approved payment channels and follow official SASSA communication for any further updates. They should also remain cautious of messages or social-media posts claiming that grants have been cancelled, suspended or moved to dates other than those announced by the agency.

Warning about misinformation

SASSA warned beneficiaries to be alert to misinformation and disinformation about social grant payments, particularly as election day approaches.

False information about grant dates can cause unnecessary travel, overcrowding at offices and payment points, and confusion among people who rely on their grants for essential household expenses.

The agency said protecting the integrity of the social-assistance system remained a priority while it worked to ensure that beneficiaries continued receiving financial support.

SASSA added: “SASSA remains committed to safeguarding the integrity of the social assistance system while ensuring continued access to social grants for millions of South Africans who depend on this vital support.”

Beneficiaries who are uncertain about their payment dates should rely on official SASSA announcements rather than forwarded messages or unverified social-media posts. They should also avoid sharing personal information, grant-card details, PINs or one-time passwords with anyone claiming to offer help with the revised schedule.

The adjusted timetable is a temporary measure for the November payment cycle. The main purpose is to ensure that grant payments continue with minimal disruption while election-related arrangements are in place.
