Fiery M4 Carnage: One Dead, Multiple Injured in Horrific Multi-Vehicle Durban Crash
DURBAN – Emergency services rushed to a scene of absolute devastation on Tuesday following a horrific multi-vehicle crash on Durban's M4 Ruth First Highway. The catastrophic collision, which triggered a vehicle fire, has left one person dead and multiple others injured, plunging the busy route into complete gridlock.
According to ALS Paramedics spokesperson Garrith Jamieson, the major smash took place on the northbound carriageway in the immediate vicinity of the Hyper by the Sea shopping centre. The impact of the collision sent shock waves through the area, with one of the vehicles reportedly bursting into intense flames upon impact.
Swift action from the local Fire Department proved critical in preventing an even greater catastrophe. Jamieson confirmed that firefighters worked rapidly to battle and extinguish the roaring flames engulfing the wreckage, allowing paramedics to begin triaging the wounded.
Tragically, despite the best efforts of first responders on the scene, one person sustained fatal injuries and was declared dead. Several other individuals suffered varying injuries and were treated at the scene before being rushed to nearby medical facilities for urgent further care.
The scale of the disaster has severely impacted regional traffic infrastructure. Jamieson noted that both carriageways of the highway have been affected by the emergency response and subsequent backlog. Authorities have strongly advised motorists and commuters to steer clear of the area completely and seek alternative routes while recovery and investigation operations continue.
