The South African Social Security Agency has announced the social grant payment dates for September 2026.
Grant payments are set to begin in the first week of September.
According to Sassa, older persons will be paid first, followed by disability grant beneficiaries and then children’s grant recipients.
September 2026 payment schedule
- Older Persons Grant: Wednesday, September 2, 2026
- Disability Grant: Thursday, September 3, 2026
- Children’s Grants: Friday, September 4, 2026
- Child Support Grant
- Foster Child Grant
- Care Dependency Grant
- SRD Grant: Staggered rolling dates later in the month, usually from mid-to-late September
Sassa has reminded beneficiaries that the money does not have to be withdrawn on the day it becomes available.
Once paid into an account, the money remains available until the beneficiary chooses to use it.
The agency previously reminded beneficiaries that a fourth payment day had been introduced for some social grant recipients.
This applies to beneficiaries who have been identified for grant reviews or eLife Certification.
Sassa warned that failure to comply with the review or certification process could result in grants being suspended.
Beneficiaries who received grants on the fourth payment day have been urged to visit their nearest Sassa office.
They must complete the required review process to avoid disruptions to future payments.
According to Sassa, social grant reviews and eLife Certification are conducted in terms of the Social Assistance Act.
The process is intended to verify whether beneficiaries still qualify for grants.
It also helps prevent payments from being made to deceased or ineligible individuals.
Sassa said the process is also aimed at detecting fraud and ensuring that public funds are directed to qualifying recipients.
The agency added that regular reviews play an important role in maintaining the integrity of the social assistance system.
Updated beneficiary information also helps improve communication and service delivery.

Sassa beneficiaries are encouraged to ensure their personal details are up to date.
Those selected for reviews or eLife Certification should visit their nearest Sassa office as soon as possible.
Failure to complete the process may affect future payments.
The September 2026 payment cycle will start on Wednesday, September 2, with older persons grants.
Disability grants will follow on Thursday, September 3.
Children’s grants will be paid from Friday, September 4.
SRD grant beneficiaries should check their individual payment status for their specific payment dates later in the month.
