Taxi boss Joe “Ferrari” Sibanyoni expected to testify at Madlanga Commission

Mpumalanga taxi boss Joe “Ferrari” Sibanyoni is expected to take the stand at the Madlanga Commission on Friday morning.

Sibanyoni is expected to answer questions relating to Kwaggafontein and alleged criminal syndicates.

He is believed to operate a large transport empire consisting of about 400 minibus taxis across Gauteng and Mpumalanga.

His expected testimony comes as the commission continues hearing evidence linked to policing, criminal networks and alleged underworld activity.

Sibanyoni has also been identified as an alleged victim in a separate case involving underworld figure Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala.

Matlala allegedly attempted to assassinate Sibanyoni during a 2022 ambush.

The details of Sibanyoni’s anticipated evidence have not yet been fully ventilated before the commission.

However, his appearance is expected to attract attention because of his influence in the taxi industry and his alleged links to matters involving criminal syndicates.

The commission is expected to question him about developments in Kwaggafontein, an area that has previously been associated with violence and organised criminal activity.

Sibanyoni’s name has also surfaced in relation to the broader underworld matters being examined by the commission.

His transport operations reportedly span both Gauteng and Mpumalanga, placing him among the more prominent figures in the regional taxi industry.

The alleged attempt on his life in 2022 is expected to form part of the wider context around violence and power struggles involving figures linked to organised crime.

At this stage, it remains unclear how long Sibanyoni will testify or what specific evidence he will provide.

The Madlanga Commission is continuing its work, with more witnesses expected to appear as proceedings unfold.

This is a developing story.
