A 45-year-old man was stabbed to death in Tafelsig, Mitchells Plain, shortly after midnight on Tuesday, 30 June 2026, in an incident that has shocked the local community.
Unconfirmed reports circulating on social media allege that the victim was killed by his own son. However, police have not confirmed the identity of the attacker and say investigations are ongoing.

Relative Beaten by Residents
According to community accounts, neighbours allegedly confronted and assaulted the 22-year-old relative after the stabbing, accusing him of being responsible for the killing.
Social media claims that the victim’s throat was slit before residents apprehended the alleged attacker. The injured relative was reportedly transported to hospital by ambulance.
Police have urged caution regarding unverified claims and confirmed that no arrests have been made at this stage.
Investigation Ongoing
Authorities are still piecing together what led to the fatal stabbing. The motive for the attack remains unclear.
The case has drawn comparisons to another recent family-related killing in the Cape.
Echoes of Lavender Hill Tragedy
Earlier in June 2026, Lavender Hill community worker Joyce Waterloo, 59, was allegedly stabbed to death by her 19-year-old daughter during an argument over money.
The incident took place in St Christopher Avenue, St Montague Village. Police confirmed that the daughter was arrested and charged with murder, and she appeared in the Wynberg Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 8 June 2026.
While the circumstances of the Tafelsig case are still under investigation, the latest killing has reignited concerns about violence within families and communities already grappling with high crime levels.
Police have appealed to anyone with information about the Tafelsig incident to come forward as investigations continue.
