Delft mass shooting: Man guns down six people – residents too afraid to speak

A Delft mother and her 12-year-old son were killed and four others wounded in a late-night mass shooting in Leiden Avenue, in what terrified residents believe is a gang-linked attack.

A MOTHER, 38, and her 12-year-old son were shot dead in a mass shooting, which left four others wounded, on Friday night in Leiden Avenue, Delft.

According to residents, the home where the attack took place is now standing empty.

According to reports, an unknown male knocked on the door, and when the door was opened, he opened fire in the home where eight people lived.

When Daily Voice arrived at the house where the incident took place, we were told by residents in the area that nobody was at the home, as the house is still full of blood.

Neighbours, visibly shaken, said they were too afraid to speak openly, fearing reprisals in an area where gang violence is a constant threat.

Residents in the area were too scared to speak out of fear for their safety, as they claim the shooting is “gang-related”.

One of the wounded survivors is fighting for his life.

One of the wounded victims’ family members refused to comment after telling the Voice that their relative is in a critical condition in a local hospital.

They said that their family member was innocent and was just in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Another resident, who requested anonymity, alleged that drugs were being sold from the property that was targeted.

One of the residents who wants to remain anonymous said: “They sell drugs at the house where the shooting took place.”

He claimed: “A white VW Polo pulled up, and the occupants of that vehicle got out and knocked on the door.

“When the door was opened, that was when they shot everyone. At the time of the shooting, everyone was in the house, including the babies.

“The mother and her son were shot dead, and the 21-year-old brother is in critical condition in the hospital.

“Two women were in the house who were shot and wounded in the shooting, but they don’t live there.”

Police have not confirmed any link to drug dealing or gangs, but have opened murder and attempted murder dockets and say the motive remains unknown at this stage.

Police spokesperson Sergeant Wesley Twigg confirmed that the motive for the attack is not yet determined, and the shooting is under investigation.

Twigg gave a detailed breakdown of the casualties and confirmed that two people died at the scene.

Twigg reported: “Delft police registered two counts of murder and four of attempted murder following a shooting incident on Friday night, 10 April 2026, at about 10.45pm, in Leiden Avenue, Delft, where a 38-year-old female and a 12-year-old boy were shot and fatally wounded, and two males and two females between 19 and 61 were wounded.

“Police members responded to a complaint of a shooting, and upon arrival on the scene, they found the victims who sustained gunshot wounds to their bodies.

“The 38 and 12-year-old victims were declared deceased on the scene by medical personnel, while the other victims were transported to a medical facility for treatment.

“According to reports, an unknown male knocked on the door, and when the door was opened, the suspect opened fire on the victims and fled the scene.

“The motive for the attack is yet to be determined.”

The description provided by residents broadly matches the police account: an unknown man arrived at the house, knocked at the door and, when it was opened, began firing into the crowded home before fleeing in a white VW Polo.

The house, which reportedly accommodated eight people, including children and babies, became a scene of devastation. Blood stained the floors when journalists arrived, and the property stood deserted.

For now, investigators are piecing together the events of that night, while residents whisper about gang scores being settled and innocent people caught in the crossfire. Police have not confirmed those claims, but Delft has long been plagued by gang-related shootings and turf battles.

With the shooter still at large, fear in the neighbourhood is palpable. Community members say they feel exposed and helpless, as brazen attacks continue to spill into homes and streets.

Police are urging anyone with information to come forward, stressing that tip-offs can be given anonymously.

Police are appealing to anyone with any information about this shooting incident to contact Crime Stop on 08600 10111 or use the mobile application MySAPS anonymously.

As the wounded receive treatment and a family prepares to bury a mother and her young son, Delft once again finds itself mourning victims of a gunman who arrived at a front door and opened fire on a house full of people.
