KwaMashu, KZN – A 14-year-old boy tragically died on Sunday after losing control of his father's vehicle on the M25 in KwaMashu . The accident occurred when the Toyota Corolla Quest, driven by the teenager, overturned multiple times .
Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) members were dispatched to the scene after their operations centre received numerous calls from the public reporting a serious motor vehicle accident . Upon arrival at approximately 3:59 pm, officers found the blue Toyota Corolla Quest had overturned multiple times .
According to RUSA, it is alleged that the 14-year-old was driving in the eastbound lane when he failed to negotiate a bend . This caused the vehicle to veer onto the verge on the extreme right before rolling several times . The vehicle eventually came to a stop on all four wheels in the opposite lane, facing the westbound direction .
"It was established that the boy’s father was a passenger in the vehicle at the time of the incident. The father was allegedly under the influence of alcohol, which resulted in the minor operating the vehicle," said RUSA .
Paramedics assessed the boy, who had been ejected from the vehicle, and declared him dead at the scene . The father has been handed over to police for further investigation .
